Red Lion's recent posts made me wonder about people's willingness to take medicines made from aborted fetal tissue or developed using human embryo stem cells.
Would any of you take any of this stuff if you were diagnosed with a terminal illness and your doctor told you it could help?
I'm still a skeptic about the whole situation. I didn't read the second post but did read the first. I thought they were hoping to do this down the road but it hadn't been done yet. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm still not willing to spend any federal dollars on it. If it does really work, there will be plenty of private funding available. The onlyreason you need federal dollars is because results don't matter, only more funding.

I have witnessed the miracle stem cells are from a kid that got into a bad car wreck and broke his back about 10 years ago. Doctors said he wouldnt walk again. A couple years ago he walked his bride UNAIDED DOWN THE AISLE, there were a few tears around. Pretty powerful stuff!

A few years ago, I got a spinal cord injury at work(c3-c7). The cord was badly damaged, but not severed at c4. I had to learn how to walk and move around all over again, and also have chronic nerve pain that will probably never go away. I have thought about stem cell treatment, if they ever develop a treatment for my problem. I absolutely would use a drug or treatment developed or derived from a source that did not include the destruction of human life(killing rats or monkeys is OK by me).
I have a relative with cancer who was given a drug which is derived from aborted fetal tissue. Her doc did not tell her how the med was produced and it wasn't until she was about a month in that she found out. This lady is a hard-core anti-abortion Roman Catholic, or at least I thought she was. So far, she has not stopped taking the medicine. I guess my problem with the whole thing is it seems like people have all these personal convicitions that seem to disappear as soon as it is their a$$ in a crack. My personal beliefs and convictions don't vanish when trouble shows up. I would rather have people just decide and stick rather than pretend until personal hardship comes around.
I had a feeling that folks on this forum would be honest, and you did not let me down. Thanks for the replies!

I would and I'll tell you why. An ethical stand is one thing, but dying and your children losing you, your wife losing you, your family and friends losing you all over a choice on a drug that was made in such a way ? You can't reverse what was done but you can live given your hypotheical sitautaion. It would be too selfish not to take the drug.
Remember the story on the preacher in the flooded riveron top of a house as the water rose? Three boats came along and offered help, each time he said God would save him.
