Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Gay in the military, part IV

I just heard something about the U.S. military getting rid of about 60 Arab language translators because they are gay. I think that these are actual American soldiers, not civilians. Brilliant strategy at a time when translators are worth their weight in gold.

It reads like a stupid decision, but what do you expect when the policy is still that gay men may not serve if identified as gay.

"SAN FRANCISCO - The number of Arabic linguists discharged from the military for violating its "śdon"™t ask, don"™t tell"ť policy is higher than previously reported, according to records obtained by a research group.
The group contends the records show that the military "” at a time when it and U.S. intelligence agencies don"™t have enough Arabic speakers "” is putting its anti-gay stance ahead of national security.
Between 1998 and 2004, the military discharged 20 Arabic and six Farsi speakers, according to Department of Defense data obtained by the Center for the Study of Sexual Minorities in the Military under a Freedom of Information Act request."

Having a bit of experience with the Islamic culture, it would not surprise me if the "violating don't ask don't tell" is more a matter of typical Islamic practices like holding hands as a reason to simply downsize.

Since they are Islamic, getting discharged from the service is probably the least of their concerns. Islamics fix to homosexuality is death.

Tell me about it. At least a fine butt whipping and many years in prison. Witnessed a soldier who was caught in a homosexual act get his butt beat in Saudi. They shoved me up front with the Colonel, the Preacher and Sgt. Maj. Fifty whacks on the butt and lower back well laid on by a huge Black MP.The MP wore out three huge canes on the guys butt. Got blood splattered on my Vinnell uniform. Dropped my head once and an MP came over and shoved my chin up. He had two more butt beatings coming and five years in prison.

Wow! I knew our military discharged soldier identified as gay, but to beat them and send to prison?

It never ceases to amuse me when civillians question military internal policy, would you prefer that they only enforce some of the regulations once in awhile when it's convenient and PC?

Like them or not, those regs exist for a reason, and nobody should be above them. Without clearly written well enforced regs the military would collapse into chaos and become ineffective. If those pantywaists had kept their mouths shut they'd still be in, it sounds like they didn't want to be in and got their wish. "Don't ask, don't tell" didn't originate with Klintoon, it's more or less always been armed services policy, albeit unwritten, because you can't identify a ***** until they reveal themselves or get caught "doing it". The current regs state clearly state "Shut the hell up if you want to stay in", I don't see why fags find this so hard to accept. In the old days a ***** got a Dishonorable discharge and long prison time, now all they get is kicked out and they're whining.

I have no problem with open gays serving in the military, or serving with those who are gay. I knew a few during my time in the Army that we fairly well established as gay, but were good soldiers. I would rather have acompetentgay soldier to rely on, then an unmotivatedstraight $hit-bag.
