Red, I don't think anyone would have to go any further than the HNI archives to find foolish things we've all said at some point.

Someone will point out "Yeah, but Falwell was in the public spotlight so he should've known better." Actually, I would say that anyone in the public spotlight says things they shouldn't have at some point. The difference is that Falwell was hounded unmercifully by the national news media. And a lot of things said about him are twisted or even fabricated. For example, I'll bet the majority of people on this board believe that Falwell said that the Teletubby doll was a hidden homosexual symbol, when in truth, he never said anything of the sort.
I hardly agree with everything that Falwell has ever said. Some of the things he said (especially regarding HIV and the 9/11 attacks), I think there's some truth in, but there's a certain context that you can say or can't say certain things in, and he got it all wrong. Falwell was dead wrong with his view of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and it could even be argued from comments he made about King that he was in favor of segregation, which would have been a shameful stance. But, at the end of the day, he was a good man trying to do the right thing, but was villified by the media because of his Christian beliefs.
My biggest fault with Falwell was his association with Pat Robertson, who I personally believe is a disgrace to Christianity.
