Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default What have we gotten into?

I have never held back my despite for the Iraqi people.
The uneducated tribal life styles of kill and take have no place in todays modern world.
We as hunters have more ethical standards on how we kill deer or trap racoons than the way these subhumans treat their wives. To some how think that these animistic beings would ever accept our way of thinking is absurd.
After four plus years of this war & untold hundreds of billions of American dollars & 3500 deaths there is no sign of intelligent life formsemerging from Iraq.
Here is a story from U.S.A.Today maybe it will clear up some of the untold problems.

I feel your frustration in regards to this. I just do not believe that even the mighty US military will ever be able to settle things enough in Iraq to make our cost even come close to being acceptable. The Soviets learned a thing or two from the Afghans after 10 years of their mighty military getting whooped. Islam is Islam and much of what you described is not only true for Iraqis, but also for Saudi's, Kuwaitis and othersin the region.

Some of the high points of this hell hole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Piles of garbage mix with sewer sludge in abandoned lots, while butchers hang skinned sheep carcasses from crumbling storefronts. The Kurdish neighborhoods to the north of the city are visibly cleaner, but the garbage piles grow further south, in the Arab districts.

"Nation building" is working beyond the wildest dreams ofthe liberals and neo-cons in DC. Looks increasingly like Iraq will become at least three "nations." What a coup!!!!

Muchof theMiddle East is a cesspool. Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is without running water most of the time.

You have a point here guys. May I add that the assumption made by the war hawks that because we love our "brand" of democracy everyone else will too is just that - an assumption (ass'u'me, you know the rest).

The developement of self government is colored by regional history and culture to such a degree that it is not easily transplantable or easily imposed on others.

This was our fundamental error in deciding that invading Iraq was workable.

There is no such thing as "shake-and-bake" democracy. When and if Iraq becomes democratically stable, it will be far different from what we envisioned.

Its very likely they will freely vote themselves into an Islamic theocracy similar to Iran. That is one of the things Saddam fought against to keep his secular government in power and why he was not an ally of the theocratic Al Qeada movement. His methods were barbaric andinexcuseableof course, but his objective was not unlike ours today = "keep the crazies in check to retain a secular gov."

Its an uncomfortable truth, but truth nonetheless.
I definitely like your point about brand of democracy and agree any democracy in and Islamic country, such as Turkey for that matter, will be different than our ow.

Yes it does make me wonder. On the other hand, afterworking to help train two different "Arab armies", it does not surprise me one bit. These folks live in an Islamic wonderland, lobotomized by their religion.
