Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

"President Bush has not hesitated to ask for sacrifice from the soldiers he sends into combat. Now may be the time to ask for some sacrifice from the rest of America."

No one cares about the mental well-being of the troops or the size of our military?

Red Lion, thanks for the link. i will say my bit.

The vast majority of Americans have no guts for sacrifice. There are two kinds of Americans when it comes to war. There are thosewho sit and whine about the war, join anti-war demonstrations, badmouth the troops and everything they stand for. Then there are thosewar supporters who sit on the side lines and cheerlead their president as a brave, insightful warfighter.Few from either group joins the US military, signs their name on the dotted line and takesan oath to obey the orders of those appointed over them. People of both groups say things like: "They are volunteers, they joined for the benefits." What munificent "benefits" they are. A maximun of $1,075 per month for education bennies. Folks, thosebrave youngmen and women are protecting yourbutts.

Politicians on both sides of the aisle are asking fewer than one percent of Americans to keep us safe from whatever demons are alleged to be attacking us this week. Then they get bent out of shape when things go awry. Ten God loving conservative Republikans joined Hillary and the usual liberal Demoncrats in opposing the the appointment of the US Army COS. Both Demoncrats and Republikans use the militaryto makeUS foreign policy. Both sides are into "nation building." Nation building has been a total dismal failure. It has never worked anywhere. Klinton and his Bunch sent US troops into Kosovo to protect a bunch of violent Islamic zealots who haveshown their gratitudeby burning down more than 200 Christian churches. One of the Islamic crazies who planned to attack Ft. Dix is a Kosovo refugee.

The US military has tried to cut veterans benefits and military disability retirement benefits by low-grading the disabilities of wounded troops-despicable. The late Republikan congress cut troop brain injury research. In his current budget request, Bush wants to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of military veterans and to deny them VA benefits. Bush wants toraise the cost of Tri-Care for military retirees.

Mr. and Mrs. America, if you want an Army to protect this country you have one of two choices.

1. Step up to the plateand increasepay and benefits. WARNING!!!-This is expensive.

2. Start drafting every able-bodied male and female into the US armed Forces, no exceptions for the offspring of fat cats or politicians.Pay them $500 per month. WARNING!!!-Lots of folks ain't going to like this.
FINAL WARNING!!!-Failure to do 1 or 2 will result in having a war one day where no one shows up to fight.

Which ever plan you chooseyou mustpony up the money totake care of the wounded troops and their familiesas well as the familiesof those who die inyour war. If you cannot afford your war and its aftermath then do not have your war.

To care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan.
Abe Lincoln.
This is also the motto of the incompetent VA.

I care about the size and mental health of our troops but just tend to stay out of the political forum, I don't know a ton about this stuff. I do know however that I have heard a lot of griping on Bush this Kerry that the war is costing us so much money, what about our soldiers over there. They put their butts on the line for us and this is how we repay them. How many people have Support our Troops stickers on their cars but do nothing to aide them. They are coming home and are in need of serious mental health care and the V.A. is turning them away. Soldiers who are overseas fighting for their country are getting their children taken away while they are gone. I admit that I don't do as much as I could be doing but this has got to stop. I think that a fund should be set up for these soldiers who are getting the counseling they need because they are being rejected by the V.A. Every vet should have access without breaking their bank just to get it. And another thing for those who don't know, most of these guys can't eat jerkey anymore because it reminds them of burnt flesh, others have had a hard time with barbecueing. YES they need the help. When the V.A. was questioned as to why they were turning away soldiers Their reply was we didn't think that it was that serious. Come on these men risked their lives and then after becoming heroes they swallow their pride and ask for help only to be turned away. It's rediculious.

Again, very well said. You are one of a few that I can not ever find a reason to argue with.

I have enjoyed your threads and responses on the religion forum and appreciate your response this time as well. Please don't feel hesitant to repond again in politics in the future.

I was especially interested by this article as I found it at a time when I am strongly debating going for one of a couple jobs @ the Minneapolis VA hospital proividing therapy to OEF and OIF vets and their families in MN and western WI. Apparently at least the VA in MN(5 state region of MN, WI, north and south dakotas and Iowa)has received a large grant and opening at least two new tx/therapy programs for vets. I guess someone is pushing through some positive changes in the VA for vets.

In some areas. The congressmen from OK are a bunch ofveteran haterswho claim the VA facilities here are just great. Disabled vets often wait three hours to get their blood drawn in that sewer they call the OK City VA hospital.Best VA treatment i ever had was when i worked in PRMA in 95 and 96. The VA hospital that i went to there was first rate in every way.

Good luck on your job wherever it is.
