I don't know about you, but it would scare me to have him as President given that statement alone. Surely, that is more serious than a simple slip of the tongue. I could understand if he mistakenly said 10,000 if 1,000 people died, but this guy has no connection to reality!Perhaps itsanother one of those top democrats making their own reality???

I think it was an honest mistake. He works himself into such a frenzy when he speaks, to "woo" his crowds, that I imagine it would be easy to make the mistake. I equate it to the 2004 Dean Scream: People are making a big deal about something very minor.

See the "Say What Barrack?" thread.

I agree with Ben. I think it was a mistake. I believe he was going to say 10 000 homeless and messed up. But like LBR said, he is not above stretching the truth. But in this case, it would be way to easy to call B.S. on this if he had said 10 000 deaths in a blatant attempt to mislead the public.

RE: Obama said 10,000 people died from Kansas tornado
This was a mis-statement like many politicians make. No big deal. The only thing about this story that is interensting to me is that (from what I have heard) Obama is more prone to these things than most other politicians, which could make for some good entertainment in the months to come.
But seriously, all politicians have dozens if not hundreds of ridiculous quotes -- it just happens.

When Bush makes such a mistake, the consensus usually is that he's an idiot. Members post about his stupidity and his lies. Why doesn't the same standard apply to Obama?

You know the answer to that one.

True.
Besides, there are those who are capable of thinking outside of their personal prejudices.

Usually, when someone slips up, they realize what they say and try to correct it. In that case, he could have said, "that is to say, there are 10,000people homeless." Ididn't hear a peep about that from him. I don'tbelieve he purposefully made up the figure, but it seems like he actually believed that to be true. I guess we'll never know.
Red Lion, I didn't hear any republicans saying the exact same thing as Obama.
