Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Animal rights and God

After reading posts about God, and posts about animal rights nuts, I got to thinking; I do not believe animals havebasic human rightsbecause the Bible tells me that the animals were put on this planet for humans use. Now if you do not believe in the Bible, what leads you to believe they do not have the basic right to exist with out being killed? Im not interested in a long drawn out thread about the existance of God or lack of, im just interested in why those of no faith feel animals are below basic rights? We could all live off plants. Just curious. I know the answer, but will see if it is what others suggest.

Idon't believe animals have rights like our 'basic human rights'. Contrary to that, I feel that we, as humans, have a moral obligation to put our own interests ahead of the other species. We really don't know why we exist. There are a lot of theories and myth and all that, but we really don't know. Yet we exist. It would be a real shame to waste that existence bickering about what's the most important species. The very fact that we can debate that illustrates how and why we should and do dominate the other animals.

This puts a whole new spin on the term 'humanism', which I find rather amusing...

I am Pagan so any quote from the bible is just like any passage from any other book to me. However I believe all life deserves respect. If you use an animal for work, treat it well and take care of it. If you kill an animal to eat, do it quickly and humanely. If you cut a tree, make sure its for a good reason...

I find it hard to believe that evolution made humans the way we are today. I believe that we were put on this planet to look after animals, and to harvest them for food.

I don't believe in God, but I still believe in being a good person and doing unto others...
I don't believe that we are above the animals in any way except superior intelligence, all animals have advantages; cheetahs have speed, elephants have size, armadillos have armour, if your adaption isn't good enough you die off. We are a part of the food chain and the way I look at it me killing a deer to eat it is no different than a wolf killing a rabbit to eat it, I won't feel guilty for being at the top of the food chain.
