Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Charges Dropped Against Student Who Wrote Violent Essay

Teen arrested for essay returns to class

***

This has always been a possibilitybut is even more so now. Some people don't recognizethe beauty and innocence of creative writing because of the few nuts out there who allow their lives to imitate art. It often seems like there's another nut right around the corner, and people are on edge because of it.

But, in any case, while I don't know enough about the specific motivation of the DA or the judge who issued the warrant,I do think that everything after that was handled properly and fairly. My question to you is: when someone, particularly a minor, writes a violent piece of literature, should we as a society arrest first and ask questions later, or fully investigate with the writer's knowledge and then decide a course of action?

What a crock, if violent literature were grounds for arrest any of the best authors weve had would have never picked up a pen.A story about someone shooting up a high school or office building is no more violent then a story set in a time of war, a western, or most horor novels.Age should have no bearing on it, everyone has had to start somewhere. This countries gone nuts[:'(]

Lee's atty will ask that the charges be dropped. This story as the one in Saturday's Chicago Tribune doesn't say charges were dropped. Just that he's being allowed back into classes at Cary Grove High School.

The Marines had said they no longer wanted him and that deal was nul. Uncertain if they want him now either - maybe if charges are dropped.

Bad precident for Marines to set because there will undoubtably be others who have signed up doing similar things to toget out of their service commitments IMO.
