Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Philadelphia Plans To Enact Illegal Gun-Control

Philly bypasses state, OKs gun control

***

How exactly does a city bypass a state? Considering Pennsylvania's preemption laws, they can't. They're wasting the people's time and money to make a statement on gun control, plain and simple. The big cities always know what's best for everyone else, after all.

Depends on the state. After the Michigan legislature passed our "shall issue" law, a couple of cities dominated by girlymen, passed ordinances barring concealed carry. But Michigan's Constitution forbids a local unit of government from pre-empting state law and the courts slapped them down.

States differ though. They don't all have the same laws.

they're a funny group down there. i try to stay out of philly politics as much as my allows.

a week ago, several philly state representatives introduced a bill (which is going absolutely nowhere) tightening up PA's gun laws. the bill prompted a counter-demonstration, at which a banner read that one of the state reps should be hung from the tree of liberty. the philly caucus viewed it as a death threat, and one said it had racial overtones. given the history of lynchings during the civil rights movement, i understand the reaction, although i'm not certain that was the message the banner was supposed to convey.

what was ironic about the whole thing was that one of the representatives who supported the gun-controlbill said that he felt his life was now in jeapordy, and he was going to start carrying a handgun.

must be something in our water.

This is statism my friends... Make the citizen into a serf, unable to protect himself from government tyrrany - as well as criminal tyrrany. Kind of like beating the dog when grandma breaks wind...
