vegan parents guilty of murder ?
THE vegan parents of a new-born baby were yesterday found guilty of starving him to death.
Their six-week-old son"™s weight dropped to just 3lb 8oz after he was fed mainly soy milk and apple juice by his parents, who refused to eat animal products.
A jury in Atlanta, Georgia, ruled that Jade Sanders, 27, and Lamont Thomas, 31, committed murder by not making sure the baby, called Crown, received proper nutrition.
The couple received automatic life sentences.

Guilty because they did not make sure the baby had proper nutrition. So if a baby were to die from complications of being obese, the same charges would be applied ? Is it possible now to be found guilty of attempted murder because your child has health complications from either lack of or too much food ?
Is it possible now, that unless your child is deemed 100% "normal" that you could be found guilty of any variety of abuse charges stemming from your child not fitting the mold of "normal" ?
I understand this death was an extreme, and a direct result of the parents decision on what to feed the child, but are all parents now going to face possible prosecution for making decisions on what your kids eat ? Has the door been busted open on parental rights here ?
My answers to your questions is... I don't know, however I don't think this case would be the one to do it.
I know some vegetarians & true vegans. Most don't procreate, but the ones who have understand that a baby & growing child has to have some animal products to survive. These parents were terribly neglectful & it's sad this baby died due to their fanatical veganism.

I hope all parents who kill their kids are prosecuted!
Cant say Ive ever heard of a baby dying from obesity with no other underlying factors contributing to the deathso the points rather lost on me I suppose.Soy milk and apple juice, they might as well have given the kid laxitives to live on.Starvations not a pleasant way to die, hope these parents enjoy thier stay in prison, they earned it IMHO.
The official cause of death always helps determine the charges. These fruitcakes starved their newbornduetheirdeliberate actions (or lack thereof). Perhaps they really were so stupid that they couldn't tell that they were killing the baby, but something tells me they had some sense and just ignored it on account of their dogmatic idiocy.
Wouldn't mind seeing parents with 250 lbs. kids get some of the courts' attention, but proving attempted murder rather than neglect could prove difficult.

Weight in kids can be very misleading, my oldest boy was pretty big, he was wearing the same size pants I am at the age of 10, of course Im fairly skinny at 150 lbs.Hes 11 now, in the course of a year hes grown a foot, hes as tall as his mother now and instead of being fat hes actually turning into a very stocky kid, looks a lot thinner, much more muscular, and frankly hes gonna be able to whoop me if he wants in a couple years
Point being last year by that logic I coulda been brought up on charges, this year he looks like a linebacker.I havent done anything differently then I was a year ago.

I suggest implementing a legal benchmark for a criminal juvenile size/weight ratio:
I dont agree with getting the government involved unless a death resulted in the childs diet. Some kids will be fat no matter what they eat. To result in a death during childhood, a diet would have to be extreemly obscene.
