Common thinking seems to be that one of the top three Democratic front-runners will join another of the three front-runners as a vice presidential running mate, creating a Clinton/Obama ticket, an Obama/Edwards ticket, etc.
How about a McCain/Lieberman ticket? I personally think that although Giuliani is dominating his GOP competitors in the polls in the early going, he will not win the nomination. I do not think conservatives will vote for him after his record is exposed, and I do think it will be exposed before we get to January. As we move closer to fall, I think religious conservatives will begin battering Giuliani. It's already started with the Southern Baptist Convention.
Anyway, conventional wisdom seems to be that Americans are tired of what they perceive as conservative rule (even though Bush isn't really much of a conservative) and will not turn out in large numbers to vote for a conservative candidate like Fred Thompson.
It is also no secret that Joe Lieberman is at odds with the Democratic Party right now, and doesn't seem much of a stretch for him to consider running on a Republican ticket. A McCain/Lieberman ticket would be quite moderate, Lieberman would help draw a lot of conservative or moderate Democrats, and it would provide a good alternative for those who typically vote Democrat but say there is no way they're voting for Clinton or Obama.
I personally am not much of a McCain fan. And Lieberman is too liberal on social issues for my liking. So I doubt I'd vote for them, although I have a great deal of respect for Lieberman. But it might create quite an interesting ticket for the GOP.

It was VERY sad to see Lieberman paraded in front of the cameras when he ran with Gore. The things he was forced to say were pitiful......and I'm not sure I'm over that, enough to vote for him.
He beats the heck out of anyone on the left ticket, though.

A swift kick in the nuts sounds more appealing to me, both of them are two faced snakes in my book. Neither are truly conservative, and both have more than adequately demonstrated that the Constitution is little more than fancy words on toilet paper to them. Lieberman wasn't even good enough for his own party, what makes anyone think he'll make a better Republican? No thank you.

I can respect Lieberman for sticking to his guns, but he's still a far-left liberal that voted with "his" party something like 98% of the time. No thanks.

I doubt that McCain will last through the primaries and the nation isn't ready, or ever will be, for Rudy. I hope Thompson decides to run and feel that if he does he would be enough in the middle to gain a large majority of votes from either party. Dems would vote for him because they don't have any alternative. Obama is pretty good but too green and Hillary should take herself right out of the race just by opening her mouth.

I don't know how the public will react, but I would expect McCain/Liebermann to be the lesser of the many evils in many people's eyes. Too early to tell, but I give it say a >50% of happening.
I would also consider voting for such a ticket. When I look at my politics, I realize, of course, that I'm not going to get my way anytime soon. At this point it'sabout slowing down the growth of government before it becomes impossible, short of revolution, to change anything. I understand the power of the people to enact change in DC, but I seem to be one of the few who take it seriously. And so I playby the rules I'm given.
