Good grief. Ive seen it all now.
Ijust returned from an annual review meeting for a E.D. kid. This child is of normal intelligence and can handle school work with no problem. He is diagnosed as E.D.. This kid loves video games, as do most all young high school kids. He likes to get lost in video games and pretty much lives video games. During this meeting, I review his modifications, and the number 1 modification is; Allow student to play gameboy during class time". I said out loud, "What is this?". The diagnostician tells me, "this student needs to have a release, so we feel it is important that he can access his video games to meet this need for a release." I have to say, I've seen it all now. A kid needs to be allowed to play video games during class as much as he wants, and learn at the same time? I asked what they were going to do when this child starts failing due to the lack of attention given to his classes. No answer. The ARD committee is law, so when they say he has to have access, that means he gets access at anytime, for how ever long he wants. So basically, this kid will be playing video games all through school. The educational system is so screwed. We got the right that says all kids should be able to learn at the same level, so we need to push the crap out of them and blame the teachers when they fail. And you got the left that says all kids emotions are more important than actual learning. This video game crap is the reminance of the self-esteem system the liberals got going years ago with main streaming. Arrrgggggggggggggg im going to retch.
The one before this that got me was about 10 years ago, I had a student that missed more than half the school year. When I looked through his records to see what the problem was, I noticed every absence was excused. The reason they were all excused was because he was diagnosed as having a phobiaof school, so there for, he did not need to attend when he felt anxious.

This representsthe absurdityof egalitarianism in the education system. Everyone must go, whether they belong or not, and of course if they're a step below normal, it's up to those above to pull the weight.
Personally, I think schools would be better off it we kept the ignorant and dysfunctional out, where they can do the most good, or shall I say, the least harm.

RE: Good grief. Ive seen it all now.
I just got wordfromone of theteachers this student has, that he spent the whole class period playing video games, following this ARD meeting. He set at his desk, with earphones in, and played video games. This is going to be interesting to see how all this plays out. Because you all know, this students failure is going to be the fault of the class room teachers and will fall right in line with the misinformation provided to John Q public about the inability of our teachers.[:'(]

Oh, we did that. And had success. That was until the liberals felt teaching special ed kids a skill was not meeting their social needs and blimished their self-esteem. Now these kidsfeel real good about themselves, but have no skills when they leave school. What a great exchange.[:'(]

I know you guys don't mean harm but putting the blame on handicapped kids will not solve this problem. I am on the local special Olympics board I have never been around a more appreciative bunch, they know they are different and accept it .
The problems you are experiencing are coming from our so called smart people. Need any one explainer N.C.L.B. just another of Wya's brain farts!!!!!!
Sounds like he'll be a perfect addition to the Blue collar union working class!!!
I dont know if anyone else takes offense at a stupid statement like this but I do. I suppose doing blue collar work is beneath you mastevt. Bite me. [:@]

I agree with you, but, sometimes it is better to ignore than to get to involved as he is joking I think. But, non the less statements like that is part of the problem here in the good ol US today. Most folks that make those remarks know nothing about what they are saying. I would like to see half these folks sweating on the grindstone 12 hours a day doing the shifts we do up here. Being way understaffed pushing for more goods out the door. Working long weeks because not enough employees to cover vacations. Working around steam when temps are running outside 90+ degrees and having a boss trying to push for more and better. I would also like to see them push 1200 tons a day out the door when the machines were made for only 600 tons a day. Yeah it's a piece of cake any fool can do it?

I'm not blaming the kid--only saying that he does not belong in school. I've alwayas thought that Special Ed was a joke, and still do. I believe in educating the best and brightest first, then making the way down to the line to the rest. Some people are simply not able to be educated, as we can see from many of burnie's ridiculous schooltime situations, regardless of NCLB.

He did write "union". I see quite a difference between many union and non-union workers in terms of motivation, production, and quality of work.
