Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Plates Are Unconstitutional
Tuesday, April 24, 2007

INDIANAPOLIS "” The "In God We Trust" license plates that have quickly become a fixture on Indiana roads came under a legal attack Monday claiming the law authorizing them is unconstitutional for favoring that message over those on other plates.

The lawsuit filed in Marion Superior Court claims the state Bureau of Motor Vehicles gives preferential treatment to motorists wanting the plates, which also feature the American flag, because they don't have to pay the $15 administrative fee that the agency collects on sales of most other Indiana specialty plates.

My daughter and her husband have this plate on their cars, as do many Hoosiers lately, but I have to wonder at the approach to this attempt to ban them. Apparently God isn't the sticking point this time.

I say they need to quit cryining. Here's an easier cheaper solution. Instead of saying ban them tack on the fee. Why haven't they done this? Because it is promoting God. And forbid in the land of the free letting CHRISTIANS have the same freedom everyone else does. Christians don't ask for special treament. If Muslims can go to school and pray then christians should to. If someone can have plates that say God is a hoax then christians should be able tosay I LOVE JESUS. What are athiests so afraid of?

I don't have a problem with the plates. I do have a problem with charging less for plates that express a belief in God than in plates that do not express that belief. Just charge the same for allspecialty plates. End of story.

You should be governor. You're thinking logical. Appearance is everything though and you need to get rid of that dumb hat.

I'm pretty sure that the court only held the preferrential treatment as unconstitutional, not the plates themselves.

This will just put the onus on the state to charge the same amount for all plates, or if they want to have a "free" plate, it can't say anything about god on it. Common sense folks. Good points Mountainhunter. Very accurate.

This is a load of crap. Charge a flat rate, or more for a private plate and get on with it. Whats the big deal.

Whether this violates the Constitution or not (are we talking Federal or State here?), the simple solution would be to charge the same fees for different plates.
