PARIS "” Presidential candidate Segolene Royal is not married, and if she wins, her romantic partner plans to scorn the trappings of life as France's "first gentleman;" he swears he will not even live in the official Elysee Palace.
Conservative contender Nicolas Sarkozy's marriage has been tabloid fodder. It was love at first sight when he fell for his second wife "” at her wedding to someone else. During Sarkozy's run for the presidency, she left him for a while, and paparazzi photographed her hand-in-hand with another man.

RE: Ever wonder why France is so screwed up? Just ask the folks who want to run the country.
While I agree that the story does not lead me to think that the Frogs are anymore screwed up than us, I have only met one frenchy even close to normal and humble, my neighbor. I knew a Frenchy that was so lazy he used to piss in his kitchen sink instead of simply going to the bathroom. [&o]

Royal's partner is a rather smug socialist who has made statements about not liking the rich. However, tax records show that he is in the same economic category as those who he dislikes. That's gotta be a female dog.

I was reading some Sarte last night and had to wrinkle my nose at the imaginary smells described in the book. It's amazing that such a lousy country can produce great minds despite itself.

Good info MH. Now there is another one of the jokers who won't get my vote in 08. The list is growing and I hope a clear cut qualified, honest candidate will emerge.

Wait a minute. I despise the French, but we have a candidate (Rudy Giuliani) who was caught by the press in a shenanigan with one of his female aides, so he separated from his wife, moved out of the mayor's mansion and into an apartment with two gay friends while he was still mayor so he could await the divorce to be finalized and marry his aide.
Morality is a thing of the past all around the globe, gentlemen.

Thanks Ben now there is another one I won't vote for. Keep up the good work guys. Eventually we will drill down to the basics and find a good candidate. As previously mentioned in another thread title McCain is a joke, or something like that,so he is out too.

Maybe it's not just because of the folks who run the country, courtesy of Fox News:
French Snobbery Directed at ... the French
Sunday, April 29, 2007
We had it wrong all along. The French don't hate us ... they hate themselves!
According to an opinion poll published Friday, the French dislike themselves even more than Americans dislike them, Reuters reported.
The survey of six nations, carried out for the International Herald Tribune daily and France 24 TV station, said 44 percent of French people thought badly of themselves against 38 percent of U.S. respondents who had a negative view of the French.
Only 14 percent of Germans, 25 percent of Italians, 29 percent of Spaniards and 33 percent of Britons had a negative view of the French, according to the Harris/Novatris poll, which questioned more than 1,000 people in each country.
Looked at from another perspective, the Germans have the highest regard for their neighbors, with 73 percent saying they had a positive view of the French.
By contrast, some 63 percent of Italians had a positive view of the French, 54 percent of Spaniards, 51 percent of French, 41 percent of Britons and just 35 percent of Americans.
Thursday's poll said 74 percent of Americans said whoever wins the second round of France's presidential election on May 6 should try to improve relations with the United States.
Some 41 percent of French agreed, but 20 percent believed Paris should be even more distant with Washington.
