Default Flag at half mast for troops?

I found the following story interesting, one questioning why the flag is not flown at half mast for US service men and women killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. I guess I do not know how I stand on it yet.

Dothose other NATO countries value the lives of their service men and women more than the US government values the lives of our fine troops?

If the flag were lowered to half staff every tme a service member was killed it would never be fully raised, I've always felt that seeing it at full staff is the best way of recognizing the sacrifices of those who have fallen defending it, if it weren't for them it wouldn't be flying at all.

i think that says it pretty well.

in fact, i think we ought to stop lowering it every time someone gets the hiccups.

They're flying at half staff right now - for the VT killingsI suppose, but I haven't heard exactly why.

Anyone know for sure?
