Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Mayor considers fees to drive in NYC

***

Come on, now, don't tell me this is the best way government has forsqueezing money out of people. I love this big city mayors who find a way of fixing some "problem" (usually incompetence) and creating a few more in the process.

Their trying to hit us with commuter taxes into DC to pay for all the low life welfare recipients and socialist programs. It's not enough to tax the businesses and have twice the Maryland rate for sales tax.

I doubt that his idea will find any support, and what's the plan? Put tollbooths on selected streets? Pfffftttt!!

I don't know, seems that if the mayor and the city council agree, that's all there is to it. I heard about DC trying the same crap. The thing is that the white collar and skilled technical workers commuting from Maryland and Virginia are the ones who drive that city's economy and fill its coffers. It's generally inadvisable to bite the hand that feeds.

In wisconsin there is now a fairly hefty tax on rental cars. The Mayor of Milwaukee along with much of the other lefties in the state have been trying to get a commuter choo-choo built in Milwaukee for years but the Wisconsin taxpayers have been smart enough to not want to pay for it.

Correct me if I'm wrong Aught, but in Virginia, they jacked up the tolls onthe Dulles toll road to pay for metrorail expansion. It should really anger commuters when tolls that are earmarked for the project they are set up on are subsequently used to generatefunds for other reasons. Democrats are notorious for employing the tactic in this area.

Yes, indeed, they jacked it up a couple years ago--a 100% increase at some tolls to pay for a subway that I'll never use. Meanwhile, between the Toll Road and Harbor Tunnel, I pay $6.50 in tolls round-trip to visit my family. It's worth it, I suppose, but I kind of wish that state administrators could finish paying for what they already have before they start building more.

And stick to keeping tolls they way they were intended: to pay for the project the toll is set up on! Over a decade ago in PG County, they enacted a tax to pay for the Bowie Baysox baseball field. Here we are long after the field has been built and paid for, but the tax hasnever rescinded. The common liberal swindle at work!
