I don't know anything about that trial but I can say this. There are alot of people that have been let off the hook for whatever reason. There are two instances where I have seen this happen. My brother had court for some stupid reason, I can't even remember what it was. To clarify stupid reason: He did something stupid and had to suffer the consequences. There was this guy who was there for sexually abusing his 12 year old daughter and he admitted to several accounts of molestation. Including the rape of his daughter. He took a plea bargain of 3 months not years. I wanted to throw up. #2 My sister married this real big scumbag, they are now divorced. And I thank the Lord for that. Anyways about a year ago he was in court for molesting girls. They had 5 cases open on him. Each case had at least 2 girls involved. His charges consisted of first degree to fifth degree. He took a plea bargain of 12 years, can be out in as little as 8. If he is out in 8 he will serve 4 years probation. It was not mandatory to go through a program. If he doesn't want counseling he doesn't need to take it. It was only advised. When we vote we need to be careful of the judges we are voting for.

Unfortunately you are right. My wife is a therapist int he sex offender treatment program at Lino Lakes correctional facility in Minnesota.Sex offenders can refuse tx and simply do their time, but often get a break on actual time served when accepting treatment and doing so appropriately. It is not uncommon for sex offenders to get kicked out of treatment and then allowed back in as well.
With that said many states have sentencingguidelines that a judge is only suppose to go out of under certain outstanding circumstances, so what criminals get for sentences are often cookie cutter sentences.
