r all this caterwauling and whining from the Bush Bunch on the Pelosi visit to Syria. Yes, Pelosi had no business going to Syria.
What the pseudo-cons in DC do not tell you is that three Republican House members visited Iraq prior to Pelosi: Theyviolated the ban on travel to Syria without a peep from the White House.
The Republican congressmen visiting Syria were: Frank Wolf, VA; Joseph Pitts, PA; and Robert Alderholt, AL.
Looks like we have some more White House hypocrisy here. Perhaps theState Department travel ban does not apply to Republican chickenhawks.

So, where did they go? Iraq? Or, Syria? During their travels, did they LIE about the foreign policies of the U.S and Israel?
Anyone who doesn't see the glaring difference is either blinded by partisanship or foolish.
First, I think it's stupid for ANY member of Congress to visit Syria, be it Republican or Democrat or independent. But the issue here isn't the members of Congress visiting Syria; it's the dialogue that occurred on their visit. The Republican visitors to Syria did not attempt to dictate foreign policy changes behind the backs of the state department and the Israeli government.
What Pelosi did is so ignorant that it defies any attempt at logic. She is so power-hungry and so caught up in the gloating aftermath of becoming the first female speaker that she thinks she can single-handedly set policy directives and take on diplomatic missions. I don't give a rat's behind that she went to Syria. Yes, in that regard, it was no different than what the Republican members of Congress did. It was what she did when she got there that was so stupid she needs to be horsewhipped.

The three Bush supporters went to Syria, thanks. We do not know what the three Republican congressman did in Syria. It was not reported on extensively in the media since they were not criticized by the Bush Bunch for makingTHEIR illegal visit to Syria.
I don't have so much a problem with Pelosi going there as I have with her meddling in foreign policy and lying about U.S. and Israeli positions on issues. Pelosi's SOLE reason for going was to embarass the Bush Administration and undermine the Administration's constitutionally established control over foreign policy. If it was just a "fact finding" mission, and she didn't open her moronic mouth andmisrepresent policy, I've got no problem at all with her making trips to dangerous parts of the world and putting herself in harm's way...
By the way, the site you've linked really has a lot of radical left wing nut jobs... They're even complaining about a State Department delegation going to Syria, which is absurd, since the Executive Branch runs foreign policy through the State Department.
"By the way, the site you've linked really has a lot of radical left wing nut jobs..."
As opposed toradical right wing nut jobs.
Yeah, there are plenty of us out there, too... Just not at that site.
I just thought it odd that their hatred of Bush and his supposed hypocrisy even extends to a State Department delegation, when foreign policy is actually the job of the State Department (and NOT the job of the Speaker of the House). And, of course, no one at the site seems to have heard how ticked off the Israelis were that she was in Syria misrepresenting Israeli policy.
Good link. This one actually provides a little meat regarding what the (R) reps were doing there. And, while I think it was not necessarily a good idea for them to go, they didn't go to undermine the Administration's foreign policy, but to look Assad in the eye and tell him they support the Administration's policy. Vastly different from what Pelosi did.
I'll say it again: While I don't think the Republicans should have been there, if you cannot see the difference for what they did and what Pelosi was doing, you're either playing partisanship or you're completely blind to the situation.
There was a time when Pelosi's actions would have been borderline treasonous.
