Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Alfred Nobel/Nobel Peace Prize

I was watching Modern Marvels on the History Channel last night and they had one episode on the modern marvel of digging tunnels. When using the way back machine to explore the history of explosive in digging tunnels they spoke of Alfred Nobel making nitro safer to use by coming up with dynamite. The Nobel peace prize is named after him in large part for this invention.
My question. Do you think, given the current political climate of our world, that someone inventing a safer way to use explosives would received so much acclaim?

I think youare correct. Even so would someone having invented a revolutionary explosive have his name attached to a peace prize that he funded today and have it accepted in todays political climate?

Probably not, unless he had the money of Bill Gates, then anything might happen.
I thinkyou may have a point.

Ifferd is right. Nobel created the award. It was his prerogative to do so. He wanted to give an award for people doing good things, so he used a million dollars from his profitsgenerated by making dynamite, and decided to award 1 person a year for doing good deeds. It was all his doing, so yea it should be named after the man forking over the dough, plus who thunkup the whole award to start with.

I don't see anyone burning the guy who invented AMFO in effigy, but then they aren't exactly erecting monuments in his honor either. AMFO, for the uninitiated, is the explosive that revolutionized both safety and efficiency in the mining and tunneling industries, both of whom are customers of my employers, eventually replacing TNT. It's also the explosive of choice for suicide car and truck bombers worldwide. Hate the game, not the players.
