Now I'm going to have to think about buying the DVD and supporting this movie since it jacks the Iranians up so much. Maybe I should ship a few copies to the troops?[8D]

Iranian Officials Angry Over 'Hostile Portrayal' in Hollywood Hit Movie '300' Wednesday, March 14, 2007 E-MAIL STORY[*]PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION[/ul] [/align] Iran, which turned a deaf ear last year to protests over its attempt to rewrite history through a Holocaust conference, now is crying foul over what it calls a "fabrication of culture and insult" to Iranians in the Hollywood hit movie "300."
"Cultural intrusion is among the tactics always used by the aliens," a government spokesman charged in a statement made to the state FARS News Agency. "Such a fabrication of culture and insult to people is not acceptable by any nation or government and we consider this attitude as hostile."
The Iranian press has seized on the outrage, with one newspaper, Ayandeh-No, proclaiming: "Hollywood declares war on Iranians."
Javad Shangari, a cultural adviser to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, attacked the film as being "part of a comprehensive U.S. psychological warfare aimed at Iranian culture," Daily Variety reported Wednesday.
"Everyone is starting to react. The DVD is already very available, and people are quite angry," one Tehran-based producer told Daily Variety. He doubted the film will ever be distributed in the region, though boot-leg copies already had made their way into many Middle East capitals.
The Persians were some of the most culturally advanced peoples of their era, but compared to the way the 'civilized' world believes it should conductitself today, they were brutal. That's not revisionism, just fact.
The Iranians are basically good people. They didn't elect the nuts running the country right now, and they resent it. Still, they've always had a strong national identity. The Persians have made it through thousands of years of conquesting and being conquested. There is more to their culture than the mullahs in Tehran today. If they feel insulted, they get PO'ed. If someones portrays Americans as a bunch of fat, ignorant, lazy hicks, I'd take offense too.
I'm just saying that while they generally favor the U.S., they don't like being insulted. These newspapers are really stretching things with talk of the government waging psychological war through Hollywood. The Iranians aren't insulted as we have been led to believe, in other words.
If you don't want to consider the many sides of an issue, and would prefer to remain pissed at Iranians, why not stop posting every few minutes in this thread?
Maybe they will threaten to wipe the Greeks off the face of the map now. I hope to catch the flick in the near future. It gets good ratings. That was quite a battle, and those soldiers deserve to be honored for their tenacity and sacrifice for their nation.
Iran has a rabid nutball for a leader right now. 'hope the future will bring their people something new.
