Liberal Democrats are having fits of conniption over the firing of eight federal prosecutors. Do not remember any liberals whining when Janet Reno fired all the federal prosecutors and replaced them with her hand-pickedlackeys.
They've been blowing it fairly consistently since '94. The one solid thing they've accomplished, with the seemingly unknowing complicity of the victim, has been to get the public really angry at Bush. That's all they've done in the past decade--get people mad at W.
They could have the countryin the palms of their hands, and they keep picking the bad fights. I guess that's what happens when you base your policies on 60's counterculture ideals. I really have trouble explaining their missteps any other way.
As far as I can remember, we have always treated the U.S. Attorney's office as a primarily political appointment, while the career prosecuters were not.
Although I can say that having dealt with both aprosecuting attorneywith a political agenda, and one without, the latter was certainly a better experience, at least on the receiving end.
Aren't all of those positions politicvally appointed at the will of the President? We may agree or disagree with the motivation for firing or "letting them go" but if it's an "at will" position, then your job does depend on your performance being deemed acceptable.

hahaha... Imagine that. Hypocrisy in a Democrat. I thought only we "R's" were capable of such things...[/sarcasm]
Quote:
Congressional Democrats are in full cry over the news this week that the Administration's decision to fire eight U.S. Attorneys originated from--gasp--the White House. Senator Hillary Clinton joined the fun yesterday, blaming President Bush for "the politicization of our prosecutorial system." Oh, my.
As it happens, Mrs. Clinton is just the Senator to walk point on this issue of dismissing U.S. attorneys because she has direct personal experience. In any Congressional probe of the matter, we'd suggest she call herself as the first witness--and bring along Webster Hubbell as her chief counsel.
As everyone once knew but has tried to forget, Mr. Hubbell was a former partner of Mrs. Clinton at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock who later went to jail for mail fraud and tax evasion. He was also Bill and Hillary Clinton's choice as Associate Attorney General in the Justice Department when Janet Reno, his nominal superior, simultaneously fired all 93 U.S. Attorneys in March 1993. Ms. Reno--or Mr. Hubbell--gave them 10 days to move out of their offices.
Well if I'm not mistaken the Bush Administration has fired 129US Attorneys, and as alsagr says, replaced them with hand picked lackeys and still have 20 months to go. It is out of these 129 that 8 or 9 have come into question if their fireing was because of poor job performance as the AG says or an actual Obstruction of Justice on the AG's part. Lets take Southern California US Attorney Carol Lam for example who put Rep Duke Cunningham away for 8 years in the Federal pen for what is now known as HookerGate, She was also Investigating the involvement of Porter Goss Director of the CIA ( who by the way Retired when this came out) Jerry Lewis (R) and 15 -20 other Republicans on the Defence Appropriitions Commity for the 700 million dollars that was awarded to phoney Defence Company's and a Big chunk of it being funneled back into the GOP. Partys, Limos, Hotels, Hookers, Yachts, Mansiions, and millions spent on GOP campaign TV commerciials, OH MY! Looks like She was doing a pretty good job till she had the plug pulled on her, Just not against the right political party! Now I'm no Liberal, but I refuse to walk around with my Eyes Wide Shut!

You got that Right Alsgar. As I recall, Clinton fired all 93 federal prosecutors when he got elected to his first term. No room for complaining now over a few (8).
Plus the ones they fired this time were all republicans. (all this parphrased from the reports I heard)
Fighting this battle makes the dems who want to fight it look even more stupid.
