GUATEMALA CITY -- Mayan priests will purify a sacred archaeological site to eliminate "bad spirits" after President Bush visits next week, an official with close ties to the group said Thursday.
Let's see. These are the descendents of the "priests" who routinely made human sacrifices by the hundreds and even thousands to their "gods".
Well, there are false priests and false prophets today, as there were hundreds and thousands of years ago, that's obvious.
I'd say that's an honor for President Bush to be insulted by such false prophet, evil-doers.

Because our civilization has no bones in our closet! hmmm slavery, taking of the land from the indians, back in the days of the gold rush where lawlessness was the norm!. Don't get me wrong I love American but trashing the Mayans because of their past is a bit cynical. This hits me wrong just because I spent a month living in a Mayan village in Mexico (Medical missions) and you wouldn't find a nicer village full of genuinely gracious people. Yes their religion disagreed with mine but its their religion and I refuse to judge a people by their beliefs but by their character.

Put it this way... one night we had a man seizing up and I had to run across the entire village carrying this massive emergency kit. During this my camera fell out of my pocket. (This all happened about midnight) The leader of the village somehow heard about my lost camera and got on the loudspeakers of the village to wake everyone up to come help look for it. I've never seen so many people out and about using candles/flashlights/ any thing else that has a light source to help one person find their camera. That is what I would call above and beyond what simple appreciation would lead a person to do!

Two wrongs don't make a right. Whether they like Bush or hate him should not be an excuse for them to act like charlatans or clowns. Bush didn't participate in slavery or live during the gold rush days and these current Mayan descendants don't practice human sacrafice. It's disingenuous to hold either one accountable for their ancestors faults and give the other a free pass. Both should be judged for what THEY do, not their forfathers.
