I know I am in the Bowhunting Forum, but this is where I spend the most time.
IL has a bill on the senate floor right now that will, if passed, make semi-auto shotguns, rifles and pistols illegal. You will be grandfathered in as long as you register your weapon with the state. If not, you will be charged with a felony!
As a bowhunter, we need to see this for what it is, the start of the end of hunting in IL and maybe other states in the future. We need to rally against this for many reasons. Most of all because it is unconstitutional and is not in any hunters best interest.
Think of what it will do to the DNR, farmers who count on lease money, gas stations and sporting goods stores, butchers, etc. The list goes on and on. If you are an IL resident, contact your state senator now and tell them you are against SB16!
I have also just seen this proposed as afederal ammendment to the US Assault Weapons ban. Spread this around and start talking! If we let this go, you will see hunting as we know it change or go away forever.

Not a member of the NRA....Not interested in being a member neither.
I support hunting on the local level...way to many yahoos in the NRA to get my support.
Plus, it will only take one politicians son/daughter being killed in an auto accident with a deer before the policy changes.

Though I may not agree with what you say, I will defend to the death your right to say it.
Register gun owners is the whine of the ultra liberals. Mark my word if this bill passes it will be signed by the gun hating governor. Owners of hunting guns will be "registered", hassled and ultimatelyall semi-autos in PRIl will be confiscated.
If you own guns and arenot a member of the NRA you are part of the problem.

I'm sick of hunters who don't think they need to do anything to support 2nd Amendment issues. "Ohhh, I support hunting on a local level." Blah Blah Balh. BFD. You're sitting back letting others carry the weight on 2nd Amendment issues while your "local" support does NOTHING, ZERO, ZIP, NADA for 2nd Amendment.
You can support hunting all you want. But, if you don't support 2nd Amendment as well, you're really are not doing enough. Of course, judging by your sig, I'm guessing you'd like to get all the gun-hunters out of your woods.

What does the policy have to do withpeople running over deer? This is an attack on the 2nd Amendment, not on hunting per se. It's a gun ban. Plain and simple. And, this time, theyaren't just after "assault rifles". They're banning hunting weapons. You have an Remington 11-87 that you use for duck hunting? It's subject to this law.

Yep, I hate to hear about that kind of ignorance and apathy. We're all in the same country here. If we don't keep it together nationally, there is no way that local groups will have the kind of support to keep legislatures from banning or regulation hunting out of existence. State governments regularly cite other states' programs when pushing their own. It's already happening as America becomes more and more suburban.
Come, NRA membership dues don't go to Ted Nugent's bank account; they go to hunter education programs, gun safety and shooting courses, legislative alerts and legal actions. I didn't see a lot of yahoos fighting New Orleans in court to return thefirearms their police department forcefully seized from people who were trapped in that hellhole following Katrina. I saw a lot of serious people helping angry citizens. This stuff is for real. The more we allowgovernment to take, the more they will take. Life is one big power struggle, and we'd better band together. Otherwisewe're through.
I stole this from another board,it one thing we can do in Illinois. You don't have to be a member of the NRA or the Illinois State Rifle Association to participate. I have been doing a lot of chest thumping lately about the 2nd. I decided I should put my money where my mouth is and do something proactive.
All Illinois gun owners are encouraged to attend the Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day (IGOLD) in Springfield on Wednesday March 14, 2007. This is an annual event where members directly lobby their representatives in the Illinois House and Senate. This year, the ISRA (Illinois State Rifle Association) is partnering with local and internet organizations in Illinois to increase participation and make a bigger & stronger impact in Springfield. Take a vacation day, a personal day, do whatever you have to do- you are needed in Springfield on March 14!

On a personal note, if you plan on attending, this is not the day for camo hats, or "Guns kill People.." T shirts! This is the day for khaki pants and a polo shirt. We have to let our legislators know that we are everyday, working individuals with families and jobs, not the "gun nuts" the media portrays us as being. Hope to see you on the bus!

Bingo!!! Perhaps it is fittingthat individuals whorefuse tocontribute the price of acheap case of beer to protect their Second Amendment rightsshould lose those rights. Maybe if a couple of other liberal states pass draconian gun control coupled with confiscation then "hunters" will wakeup.
