A while back, another member asked people to describe liberal, Democrat, conservative and Republican. Since we have a lot of new members, it might be helpful if we all posted whether we are liberal, conservative, libertarian, constitutionalist, etc. and why? Also, which party do you usually vote for and why?

I am an independent conservative. I define myself as conservative because the viewpoints I espouse are those typically associated with conservatives: The three most important things in my opinion are abortion, preservation of the traditional family, the ability to worship our God without interference or ridicule, and the 2nd Amendment. Not all of my viewpoints are conservative; my thoughts on the environment are generally labeled as liberal, for instance. But most of them are very conservative.
I vote Republican most of the time, for two reasons: 1.) Republican candidates usually align themselves with my beliefs much more than their Democrat opponent. And 2.) The current state of the Democrat party at the national level disgusts me. I refuse to vote party lines, though. The Republican nominee for Senator in Tennessee last fall was Bob Corker. I wouldn't have voted for him in a hundred years. And my Congressman is a Democrat, Lincoln Davis. He got my vote this past fall. Even though I disagree with his stance on the war and plenty of other issues, he aligns himself the same as I do on the issues I consider most important: God, family and guns.

I'm registered independent, and vote strictly based upon where each candidate stands with regard to the issues that affect me most:
[ol][*]Conservation/Environmental Protection: Historically, the Democrats have been much more responsible with regard to environmental issues than their conservative brethren. No contest. Edge: Dems.[*]Hunting: Neither party has shown much willingness to disturb the status quo with respect to hunting rights, so that's a wash.[*]Law Enforcement: I'm a huge advocate of increased spending on domesticlaw enforcement, more prisons, more police presence, more creative (and cost-effective) means of punishment. Historically, this has been an area where the conservatives reigned supreme, but the recentedge goes to theDemocrats.[*]Fiscal Responsibility: Like law enforcement, the Republicans have held an edge in their ability to keep the federal budget low, and spend responsibly. I used to vote Republican for these reasons only. However, the recent trend has been that the conservatives blow tax money like drunk liberals. Current Edge: Democrats.[*]Education: The No-Child-Left-Behind Act is a total joke. Edge: Dems.[*]Second Amendment: I strongly support the responsible regulation/registration of firearms, andstrongly support the reintroduction of the assault weapons ban. Edge: Dems.[*]Hawk or Dove:I'll take apeaceful resolution in lieu of armed conflictanyday. The Republicans' record speaks for itself. Edge: Dems.[*]Oil dependency: Democrats have shown willingness to provide various tax rebates/incentives to individuals who utilize hybrid technology, and alternative fuel sources, thus helping clear the path to an eventual reduction in oil dependency, which will allow us to cut ties with the middle east altogether. Edge: Dems.[*]Abortion: I'm a pro-choicer - and the Dems still have the edge there, but there are increasing numbers of Pro-Choice conservatives, so eventually this may be a wash too.[*]Tightening the screws on welfare: Wash. Both parties have shownequal desire and ability to tighten down the screws on welfare abuse.[*]Coolness factor: Clinton was without a doubt the coolest President of my lifetime. Meanwhile, Dubya is a bumbling fool. I'm a huge fan of John Edwards, so hopefully he gets the nod in the upcoming election.[/ol]
So for those reasons, I'll probably be pulling the Democratic lever.
I am an independent voter. I have voted for members of the Republican, Constitution, and Libertarian parties. I am disgusted with Republicans, Democrats (socialists)scare the sh** out of me (will never get my vote), and the other parties cant win. However I do find my self voting more and more for the Const-Libertarian parties.

I will qualify myself as a Moderate, but I quoted Quicksilver as much of what he stated I agree with. 7 of 11 points actually.
Where I disagree......I think that Clinton wasn't cool but a narcissistic horndog, I think both the dems and Replicans waste money equally well, I do not agree with the tightening the screws on welfare abuse without further understanding what Quicksilver means, and I do not support the reintroduction of the ban on assault rifles.
I will likely vote independent.

You sure see things in your own way. "Coolness factor"??? what does that matter, you sound like a dope with that statement. I couldnt disagree more on your welfare comment, do you not see its the dems trying to ban guns, how can you see it ok to ban some guns but not others. No where in ourConst. does it seperate thedifferent types of guns.
Unions =dems and unions have killed our educational systems. They were shot before the no child left behind deal was put into place. The worst educational systems in the country are all in dem lead areas like Chicago, Atlanta, DC etc.
GW put the tax breaks for Hybrids in yet you want to give credit elsewhere.
The Dems are why we cant drill on our own soil which would help in our dependency on foreign oil.
After re-reading you comments I wonder if you are just kiddin, Ive never read such crap.
