Default Your thoughts please.....

How do YOU define:

1. Liberal

2. Democrat

3. Conservative

4. Republican

I'm looking for individual opinions. NOT what "webster's" defintion is. Curiosity is getting the best of me. Honest answers please. Not the usual bashing.

Here's my opinion. It's kind of hard to label people but these are the general meanings of these labels as I understand them.

1. Liberal
This is kind of hard to define. During Revolutionary times, a liberal wanted independence for our country, freedom for all Americans and essentially all of the Bill of Rights. during the earlier part of the 20th century, a liberal was actually pretty conservative and supported many of the same things we all do.

Currently, a liberal (as defined by most of the people who label themselves as liberal and judging by their statements and actions) appears to be somebody who placing personal or individual freedom and liberty above all else. For instance, a woman has the right to decide on an abortion and her baby, fetus or whatever you choose to call it has no say, no rights and not much consideration UNLESS the individual woman chooses to give that to the baby.

Liberals tend to believe in bigger government and in government assistance programs. They tend to believe that successful people should pay for unsuccessful people and that unsuccessful people shouldn't have many consequences for their bad choices, lack of action or unwillingness to work. There are obviously more things to being a liberal but most (not all) liberals tend to subscruibe to these 2 basic tenets of liberalism.

2. Democrat
This one is really hard. The Democrats used to be very conservative but have gradually grown more liberal as a party since the 1960's. Within the party, they still have 2A conservatives, many centrists (aka moderates) and almost all of the ultra liberal people in this country. Unfortunately for their party, the ultra liberals have been controlling it since the 1990's and that has generally backfired on them.

3. Conservative
A conservative is another often misunderstood term. Sometimes known as right wing fanatics, whackos, extremists, etc., most conservatives are actually none of these pejorative terms and labels. Yes, there are some whackos who claim conservatism but they are really better described as anarchists or just plain whackos.

A conservative (in general) believes in having a smaller government that taxes the least amount necessary to provide only those services that people truly cannot provide for themselves in a realistic manner, such as national defense, police services, highways and roadways, sanitation, etc. They believe in free enterprise as the best means for delivering many services as it promotes competition and people get to continually vote with their checkbook (unlike with government).

A conservative wants balanced federal, state and local government budgets and believes people should have freedom to live their own lives with the least amount of government interference necessary. A conservative usually wants the opportunity to solve his/her own problems and would prefer not to have the government solve it for them. As you can tell, most politicians who claim to be conservative obviously don't practice that.

4. Republican
This is a matter of great irritation to many conservatives who feel the Republican party is leaving them and their beliefs. Yes, the Republican party needs to reach out to more people but it does not need to compromise its' principles of smaller government, freedom and liberty to do so. Unfortunately for Republicans, most of our elected Republican politicians (including the President) appear to have forgotten our principles and are creating a bigger government instead.

[:'(] Come on Ben! You can do better than that.

IMO, there's not much difference anymore. Much more grey area than black/white. Here's mine:

1. Free for all. Anything goes. Anything. [] That's scary.
2. Dems in general believe that even some "rights" should be restricted.
3.I have a hard time defining "conservative" by todays stds. To me, it puts more emphasis on Christianity. Yes, I believe others use it, not live it.
4. The other side of the fence that throws just as much mud as it has thrown at it. Believe there should be no restrictions on anything. (gov't infringing thing) Especially when it comes to the 2nd amend. "right to bear" means anyone has the right to bear whatever arms they want. I disagree. Nearly the above mentioned "free for all". Again, [].

That's why I usually sit in the middle between the two. Except, when one thinks it's "right" all the time. I've hit BOTH sides in here, so that last thought is not biased.

How's this...

Liberal = Someone who leans left on issues, big gov't, higher taxes, someone who thinks my money is their money and I don't know how to properly spend my money, thereby justifying their confiscation of more of it.

Conservative = Someone who leans right on issues, small gov't, lower taxes

Democrat = Socialist

Republican = Early 60's Democrat

Democrat = Socialist

Republican = Early 60's Democrat
I fixed it for you in order to make it more factual.
