I agree. I think Congress should be held accountable too since they have "oversight" of the military and more importantly, budgetary power. Less pork and take care of our troops.

If you're certain you know everything, there's little opportunity to learn anything.
Where have you been? This is old news, and was thoroughly hashed out last week. First, the conditions in certain parts WR are such that they've been deteriorating for way longer than Bush has been in office. Second, when Bush learned of the conditions, he acted immediately, and repairs started within a couple of days (awfully darned fast by government standards). Third, the General in charge of WR was fired. Fourth, some other big wheel resigned (don't remember who). Fifth, Congress too is complicit. There are committees in both the House and Senate (consisting of members of both parties) whose sole purpose is monitoring Veterans Affairs.

Working! This place has become pretty mundane since the recent Justin centurings.
As commander & chief this falls in Wya's lap!!!!!!!!!
We have been in this war for a long time and this mess has been going on for a longer time. Wya's appointees or aides or someone at the white-house is a bumbling idiot and this mess should have stood out like a cheese cake at Rosie O'Donnell's house.
This is inexcusable for any one. But Wya's running out of eyes to blacken.
Maybe we could save some money by having Chinese do it for us ,you know how that free trade works.
As you probably know, Reed is not a VA hospital; it is an Army hospital and falls therefore, directly under the president's chain of command (executive branch of gov.). Shifting the blame elsewhere (to congress, past admins. Etc.) is a diversionary tactic at best, and dishonest at worst.Guess when a president takes credit for things going right, he has to take the blame when his branch of gov. (exec) drops the ball. He gets exactly the budget he asks for to fund such things. Its his place and his subordinates place to know what to ask funding for under his command when drawing up his budget. If funding was cut or not asked for, it was at the president"™s ownbudgeted request. But of course, how can he be expected to take responsibility for his own war budget requests. Maybe he'll take responsibility for his branch of gov. Knowing he wanted a 2 front war, it is only logical more wounded would be cared for there. Claiming ignorance would be a gross dereliction of duty at best and disingenuous at worst. I find it difficult to believe that Army officers would purposefully remain quiet about the mistreatment of their fellow soldiers till a paper broke the story unless they were being pressured to keep quiet from higher up, which seems likely given the recent gag order placed on vets, (in itself a disgrace to honor, justice and accountability towards our vets). Testimony from one vet today indicated he felt corners were cut to help pay for the war given the budget crunch. But, the fellow was wearing an eye patch and probably shouldn't be trusted. []Its all just an honest mistake I'm sure. Things like this usually are -when the lights get turned on the cock roaches scatter (no pun intended for Walter Reed Hospital intended).

Great assessment of the situation. These deplorable conditions in military hospitals fits in perfectly with Rumsfeld's war on the cheap. There is a deliberate effort by some one high in the chain of command to hassle these troops into accepting a pittance for their war wounds.
Spent some time at Walter Reed as a patient in 1969-70. At that timeWRGH got wounded troops repaired, medically and physically boarded, awarded disabilites and back to duty or back home in a compassionate andexpedient fashion. Now wounded troops lanquish while they are hassled with deplorable living conditions and paperwork. They are offered 20 percent disability for the loss of a leg below the knee. During the Viet Nam War the loss of a leg below the knee was a 50-60 percent disability.
iwas at Walter Reed again in 1988 for a stay of several weeks. Everything was great at that time.It has been allowed to go to Hades sincethen. i'm sure that eight years of the Klinton bunch did not help the conditions there any. Klinton saw no reason for a military except as a tool for nation building. Having said that, the Bush Bunch has had six plus years to fix it.
Congress and the White Housedid not increase the VA budget in anticipation of the influx of wounded and sickened veterans into the VA system. This is totally deplorable.i write to the OK congressional delegationto no avail. Our US representative is Tom Cole, a draft dodging, go to war hawk. He talks a good line but does nothing for veterans. Veterans wait well over two hours at the VA hospital in OK City just to get their blood drawn. The place is a sewer.
Every time i read this stuff i have to puke-again.The US Army Surgeon General should be canned, i cannot believe that he did not know of those horrible conditions at WRGH.
