Right, well anyway, no, the right to keep and bear arms is not a civil right. Those rights are given (and protected) by law. The RKBA is a human right. It exists with or without the protection of the Constitution.
I'd start reading some Jefferson. If you have time, go back to Locke.
Based on the wording of the Second Amendment, you would assume that it is a pre-existing right that the amendment stipulates "shall not be infringed," rather than a right granted by the Consititution. However a quick look around makes it clear that infringements are rampant.
Check out Lawrence Tribe. Tribe is a liberal extremist law professor at Harvard who, surprisingly, believes that the Second Amenment covers an individual right rather than a right forthe "militia." He makes an excellent case which his liberal colleagues conveniently ignore.
Obviously the 2nd Amendment is the basis for our right "” and it is a right "” to keep and bear arms. But simply citing that will do no good because critics will say that the 2nd Amendment applies only to militia and that militia doesn't include the citizenry as a whole.
Look up papers written by law professors like cr422 mentioned, Justice Department opinions that the 2nd Amendment applies to the people, quotes from our founding fathers as to what does or doesn't constitute a militia, etc. A little while on Google should give you plenty of ammo.

Look at the Federalist Papers. These papers were written byMadison, Hamilton and Jay. They explain the new US Constitution. The Federalist Papers werewritten to "sell" the US Constitution to the ratifying states.
Wher ever theterm "the people"is used in the US Constitutionit means just that."The people" does not mean the standing army, the militia, the cops, the national guard or anything else except "the people."
That is an easy one , it says "The Right ". Now whenever it "the Right"appears anywhere in the constitution it refers to people , not states or federal government. Because no states or federal government are given "Rights" they are given powers but no "Rights". Rights are solely given to people.
