ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (Reuters) -- Pakistani security forces captured one of the Taliban's three top leaders just hours after U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney's unannounced visit to Pakistan earlier this week, a senior security official and Taliban sources said.
The capture of Mullah Obaidullah Akhund marked the first Pakistani arrest of a senior leader of the Islamist militia since it was driven from power in Afghanistan in 2001 and thousands of its fighters fled into Pakistan.
I see, they'll follow him now and infiltrate the ranks, then they be gettin' some mo'...
I am sure there are plenty more to be captured out there...full time job...now I am reading an article about the poppy fields in Afghanistan...they want to regulate it to keep the farmers from going Taliban friendly...like our Wheat Board regulates up here....insane...why not switch them to farming corn or something....geeeesh...
This is another ploy from Musharraf to keep the US dollars flowing to Pakistan while at the same time placating the Taliban and AlQueda. Just a co-incidence(sp) that they got him during Cheney's visit? i don't think so.

It's about earning money to simply survive over there. If the U.S. was smart, we'd figure out some BS crop that grows real well over there and pay exhorbitant (read stupidly overpriced) rates for farmers to grow and deliver said benign crop to U.S. buyers (read C.I.A.) and put poppy growing out of business by paying more for the new crop. It would be much cheaper in the long run and he who pays the bills has much more clout than he who doesn't. We would be a lot farther ahead in ridding Afghanistan of the Taliban and would see a different power player take over. It's doable but the U.S. needs to get our head out of the sand.

I've thought about that very thing for along time. Buckwheat should grow well there. Pay them 250 dollars a bushel to grow buckwheat. It would work out farcheaper than anything else we have tried in that region.
If they really liked us they would allow us access to the border region where OBL might be hiding. Boy wouldn't his capture help Bush in the ratings.
Not necessarily!!! Bin Laden is likely dead in all honesty, because he was only going to survive for so long on the run, and complicating matters for him is the fact that he has kidney failure, and is dialysis dependent. Considering his age, and the amount of time he's been dialysis dependent, and on the run, it is likely that he's not even calling the shots anymore.
The problem with declaring him captured or dead is that if the "BIG" Al Qaeda Leader is gone, then there will be a bunch of "whacko's" wanting to do the next "Big One," to prove they are the "New" leader. At some point we will have to deal with this, but the more time we have to prepare for it, the better we may deal with it.

Cant remember who but someone in here once said we should just pay them whatever there getting now to not grow anything at all.Thought it was a bad idea at first but it might actually be cheaper then what were currently spending on stopping the flow of drugs into the US with limited success, and probably much safer.
