Boysda, I don't recall you ever saying you've supported Dem politicians who are in favor of gun control. I know you're spoofing with your post but members need to realize that not all liberals are for gun control (just most of them). although some HNI members are sadly willing to accept some gun controls (like banning AR-15's), most members (including Boysda I believe) are not. Sorry if I embarrassed you Boysda but I didn't want to see a misperception continue even though I know you're a big boy and can handle yourself.

you're absolutely right, Cal, You and Alsatian basically wrote what I was thinking (except in Alsatian's case it was much moire eloquent than my somewhat lurchcing thought process). Friday was a busy day, and i choose quick irony over a thoughtful response.
On issues like gun control, I'm an unusual Dem, but by no means alone in my viewpoint. I believe existing laws need to be supported and enforced to their fullest before any new measures are even thought of. As far as further restrictions, I aproach gun ownershiop like all of my civil liberties-
1.I recognize every right I have guaranteed under the bill of rights is capable of some reasonable restriction, if there is a compelling need.
2. I will generally oppose those restrictions, but can be persuaded otherwise if someone can a) establish the compelling need, b) establish that the curtailment of the particular right is reasonable and limited in nature, c) other methods that do not impact on my civil liberties have been tried found uneffective, and d) the proposed curtailment is reasonably likely to have the desired effect on the problem.
Most instances of gun control I have looked at (like the AWB) easily fail the fourth test.
