Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Drug Screening for welfare recipients!

I'm from TN and our state is trying to get 2 bills passed to prevent CRACKHEADS from being able to get gov. cheese. I think this is the greatest thing, why does't every state do that? So what do you guys think about these bills? Will they ever get passed? I'm praying they do

The practical problem is 2 things: one is that the food is typically targeted for the children who are not users, and the cost of doing the drops. Also, marijuana is fairly easy to detect by test as it stays in the blood quite awhile. Meth metabolizes in 24 hours. Starve a few kids to death and after the beating from the media, politicians will put the program back on.

The kids are more than likely starveing anyway if there parents are ondrugs. The reason I think it's a good idea is b/c I used to run with the wronggroup of people. If I'm paying for them to live they should be required to at least work part time and have the drug test (Random). They should give them4 hrs to report, if they don't have transportation someone from the cliniccan go get them. I have no respect for someone abuseing our system. I'm not bashing people on welfare b/c I know there is good people that need it, but some are worthless.

I say we stop welfare in its entirety. I suppose a drug screen could be a good way to start.

Maybe get rid of crooked judges and cops. Not that I am proponent of welfare. If what we are doing is our best effort then there is no hope.

Those who live on the dime of another should not expect to live as freely as their benefactor, test them on a regular basis and drop their coverage if they fail.

Biscuit Jake pretty much nailed why it will not pass. I cant remember the actual case, but It has already been tried and shot down else where.

It would work just fine if it were expanded a little- if a recipient tests positive for meth, cocaine, or heroine, the kids get picked up by protective services and mamma goes directly to jail, does not pass GO, and does not collect $200 welfare check. Common sense would dictate that a person addicted to hard drugs is not fit to care for children.

I'm with Aught. People managed to get by with less violence before welfare came about and socked it to taxpayers to the tune of $ trillions.
