the school took it too far....they could just as easily asked her not to say it, while also telling the other students not to insult her religion.

i hope my kid doesn't get in trouble...she keeps saying things are "retarded"....

though i did ask her to give some thought to what she's actually saying, and she seems to have stopped saying it.

This actually is a dumb situation and no one is being discriminated against. (Note that thefirst post quotingthe AP suggests that the argument is that sheshould be able to say "That's so gay." Not that others shouldn't be allowed tomake fun of her religion.)

I agree she is being treated unfairly and if it happened to me, yeah, I would be bothered. But that's it, I would be bothered, not ready to sue. Theschool officials overreacted and so did the parents that sued.

For those of the narrow view....dumb situation + sarcastic comment = (dumb situation) its a shame that a childs religion, sexual orientation orother suchthings are not better respected withoutsingling out a single side or child, so (heres the sarcasm coming, ready)the kids might as well just go back to flinging four letter words toward each other, as the consequences are less.

If saying "Thats so gay" is offense to a class of people, is saying "Thats so dumb" offensive to those who can not speak? I often wonder why it is ok for blacks to call me a "Honky", what if I called them some slang name for their color?

Evidently, it is poor form to be a middle class heterosexual white male.
