Purpose of the government

So whats the pupose of the goverment ?

I'd say it to improve the life of its citizens butthat leaves alot of personal interpretation.

What is too much. Where is the line. Also seems some hate them no matter what they do. If they interfer too much they get hammered. If they don't interfere enough they get hammered.

So is our government the worlds best or is it falling behind ?

Our government is constituted and derives its legitimacy from a document ratified by the original states called the US Constitution. Under this constitution the federal government has expressly delimited powers.

Therefore, the US government is not a one-stop-shopping center for addressing all ills and needs of individuals who are citizens. For example, it is not among the powers -- and hence the obligations -- of the US government to indemnify its citizens against all risk, for example repairing hurricane damages to private property.

It should be patently obvious that the US government does not enter any new arena but that it sweeps in and breaks one or more precious vases and constrains the freedoms of citizens. I personally don't want the US government to be my big brother or my sugar daddy. First, I have to pay substantial taxes to enable this inefficient largess that the US government bestows upon its client-citizens and secondly I have to pay in diminished rights.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

You have good points. We have to have government or people would suffer the abuse and mistreatment of others, and our present inequities would be much, much greater. Structure, law, accountability and improving the quality of life of citizens, among other things,sounds appropriate.
Our government is or is not falling behind, depending on who you ask.
