Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Minnesotas Proposed Gas Tax Plan

So Minnesota is kicking around the idea of having some sort of monitoring device put on the odometers of cars, so when a person pulls up to gas up, a sensor will be able to tell how many miles that the car has been driven in the statesince the last fill-up, and then tax at a higher rate as the miles driven goes up. Anyone here of something like this before? What do others think about it?

Great, a new way to tax us. I think we told King George where to go over a lot fewer taxes than we are forced to pay today.

It could be done, but the logistics of it would be huge. Every car registered in the state would have to be retrofitted with a RFID chip at the least, and those who register theirs across the state line would evade it. There's also the matter of paying for such a system and it's upkeep, not small potatoes and very difficult to sell to the voters.

Just for clarification, I believe you're talking about King George the III and not King George the W. We don't want Ifferd to turn this into yet another Bush-bashing thread, though I'm sure he certainly will find a way.

Yeah, I don't think that idea would go over too well around here.
