Ok long story short. The us army is expanding in Vicenza Italy where I was just stationed 2 months ago for 2 1/2 yrs. The police on the ground estimated there was 50 to 80 thousand people at the protests which circled the post where I was stationed at. This isn't what bothers me. I recieved an e-mail from a friend who is still there. He said this weekend some american soldiers with their families mindyou were attacked outside the Vicenza train station. One guy even had his 3 month old baby strapped to his back. Even their wives were attacked one suffering bruises and cuts on her face, and the other had bruises through out her body. The size of the attackers were about 10-12 male and female individuals. An Italian stepped in and helped, the attackers yelled "You deserve what you got, and you deserve to go to Hell". Although it hasn't gotten to this point in the US. Which I know it won't. Soldiers are being attacked for being American in Italy. Some may say this is an isolated incident. Wrong it happened when I was there. Just keeping you all updated.
I will say the majority of the protestors were peaceful and werethere to protest the Italian Gov for letting us expand our base, but people are still being attacked.
