Default Do my fellow Bow hunters support the NRA?

This may not directly effect some of you right now but more anti gun owner legislation has been passed in New Jersey. The Anti-gun folks are slowly and surely attempting to take away our 2nd ammendment rights.
The new law says if you buy more than 1 gun per month you are a criminal! So I know this is the bow hunting forum, but ladies and gentlemen, please take note, that this is just the begining. They have taken this state and made it almost like an entire anti hunting state. I mean you can drive down some roads and see signs that say, no parking, no dumping, and no hunting!
As I said, this may not effect you in your own state right now.... but please read below to see how it is happening here in New Jersey. I have copied from NRA letter to share with those of you here who are interested in preserving our rights .... be it with bow or with gun.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

On February 8, by a vote of 6-0, the New Jersey Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee voted in favor of A-3511, the gun-rationing bill that would criminalize the purchase of more than one handgun per month by honest citizens.

The vote was preceded by a public hearing during which the Mayor of Jersey City and his police chief -- embarrassed by the recent defeat in court of their own local gun rationing ordinance - attacked multiple handgun sales as a cause of crime, even when those sales are made to law-abiding purchasers[/i].

Second Amendment leaders and activists from New Jersey decried the bill as misguided "feel-good" legislation that will fail to reduce crime because it only targets sales by licensed dealers to law-abiding citizens who have been carefully pre-screened by the State. Numerous other flaws in the bill were raised.

Now that A-3511 has been passed out of committee, it is positioned to make its way to the full Assembly. Based on statements made by several legislators, the bill is likely to be amended first.

This doesn't seem so bad because very few people can really afford to buy more than one gun a month and even fewer would do it even if they could afford it. But my dad says this is just a beginning. They start with a limit that won't really have much effect and then slowly clamp down. My dad believes that it won't affect people his age (67) but that people my age (16) will see the end of hunting and gun ownership.

The point is, they begin with you think is a small step, then once passed, they crank it up and try to feed off the momentum. One step at a time, one state at a time.

I'm sorry but I really don't see the point in someone buying more than one handgun at a time... Guess what? Every felon was at one time an innocent person, therefore it is a mute point to say we are limiting innocent people. Last time I checked you only need 1 handgun for home security (I prefer the 20 gauge) and if you are collecting then you can buy 12 handguns a year! This whole domino effect you are talking about is nonsense because there are some very big dominos you would have to knock over that I don't believe would fall.

This probably should be moved out of this forum to political

You people completely miss the point. Are there restrictions on how many cars you can buy a month? Steak knives? Golf clubs? While I don't normally buy guns as often as I'd like, I have on occasion found 2 deals at the same time and walked out with 2 guns at once. If I have the means I should be allowed to buy a handgun a day if I so choose. How is restricting guns to one per month going tocurb crime? HOW?! No one can explain that because it won't!!! All it is, is one step further along the road to eliminate guns from the law abiding masses.

I am a proud life member of the NRA and will always vote to keep our personal freedoms. I am saddened that so many of you willingly accept meaningless feel good measures that do nothing but harass law abiding gun owners.

Let's say your elderly neighbor passes away. His wife not wanting guns in the house offers you his four targetpistols at an amazing price. She is moving as soon as her house sells.

Do you buy the guns in one lot and risk being arrested? And losing your guns and your right to own them?

This is why this type of legislation is meaningless and referred to as "feel good legislation". These laws don't stop criminals from buying guns, they are, after all, criminals. They buy their guns off the street, not at Bass Pro's or Walmart. And especially not at your local gun shop where the employees are taught to look for signs of fraudelent or straw purchasers.

There are thousand upon thousands of gun laws on the books that have nothing to do with preventing crime, or punishing those who commit crimes. "Common Sense" gun laws only restrict the legal rights of legal gun owners.

I don't support everything the NRA does, but I will alway be a member.

Good Hunting,

what part of "shall not be infringed" do some of you not understand? whether you think it's "reasonable" or not to limit the number of handguns purchased in a set amount of time, that is still an infringement and therefore unconstitutional. i hope this is challenged and overturned.

though i'm a newbie here, i am astounded and appalled at some of the responses. like it or not, the anti-gun and anti-hunting movements work hand in hand; likewise, the pro-gun and pro-hunting groups should be working hand in hand.

So it's one/month for now. Then it's one/year. After all why would anybody need to buy more than one hand gun per year?

Anybody thinks it will stay 1 per month is naive. Their goal is a ban on the private ownership of all firearms. They know that can't be achieved in one step so they will do it one step at a time. We need to oppose each and every step or one day it will be too late!

I too am appalled by some responses here.I have had a concealed weapons permit for over 10 years, my wife has a concealed permit too,and I have been a multple gun buyer for years.I have bought as many as10 handguns inone day, and guess what, I should be able to. How dare anybody or big brother tell me I can't. I also have assault weapons. Guess what,I have also owned my own business for over 20 years and I have never assaulted any body with my assault weapons or handguns.I have them if need them though.Criminals can beat you with a baseball bat, tire iron, etc. Better ban them too, or make it where you can only buy one tire iron a day. Guns don't kill people, criminals do.
Proud Lifetime NRA member here. Thank you.
