Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default N.J. Considers Autism Legislation

N.J. legislator seeks action on autism

Autism isn't exactly something I think should be legislated, but a few of the bills seem worthy of consideration (and scrutiny over costs). The thing that got me was the first bill:

Quote:
Establish a statewide autism registry.
Might just be me, but I don't really think it's necessary or ethical to build registries on anyone other than known criminals who pose a threat to society at large. We don't even register insane nutjobs out there who don't threaten themselves or others. Should we start with those are have problems communicating effectively..."for their own good"?

I'm particularly interested in your thoughts, burnie.

Default RE: N.J. Considers Autism Legislation

its all about (say it with me) .............. money

if we can classify 1 out of every 100 people autistic, we can treat them medically, and all that medicine and dr visits etc etc is a huge money making machine !

remember the ADD/ADHD craze of the early 2000's and late 1990's ? Thats died down now, they've bilked people for all its worth. We pretty much have classified all kids as attention deficit, so now what ?

Now, if could convince parents their kids are genetically "special" maybe they can administer drugs, counceling etc etc and open a whole new wave of patients ? Yeah, and we'll come upo with some criteria that shows one in 100 kids or something is autisitc, and that'll make parents think thats their kid !

And IF autism is really showing up more often ......... why ? Whats the CAUSE ? Find the cause and you'll find the cure, right ? Hint - they don't WANT to find the cause, their cash cow will dry up if they do

Two brief points:
[ol][*]Autism isn't something that can be medicated away; and[*]ADD/ADHD is still en vogue in diagnoses, now very often in adults.[/ol]
