An individual member of Congress is demanding a 757 for transport?

A 757 is one of the aircraft under discussion. The military also provided a (smaller) jet to Dennis Hastert. Pelosi wants one that can fly to California non-stop.
The Speaker is now claiming (since it caused a bit of an uproar) that, if she can't get a jet that can make the trip non-stop, she'll go ahead and fly commercial.
Wasn't Denny Hastert provided a jet only after 9/11, when there was a very high security alert?
How much would a personal 757, plus just the airline staff, cost us? Doesn't a 757 have a capacity of several hundred passengers?

Yes, it's my understanding that it became an issue after 9/11 because the Speaker is third in line of succession to the presidency. With Pelosi as Speaker, that is a scary, scary thought.
For info on the size of the plane, go to Wikipedia and search for "Boeing 757". They have the specs. 200+ passengers. I think fuel capacity is something like 11,000 gallons.
I read today in the paper that the plane that she wanted has luxery seating for 40, private cabins and offices, entertainment center and a galley. It costs $15,000 per hour and has a staff of 47. The entire cost of a round trip DC/San Fran would be $300,000. It was also reported today that the Pentagon sent her a letter saying she would only have use of the plane that Speaker Hastert used. A much smaller plane that holds 12 people. Pelosi is a nightmare waiting to happen and America is going to have a front row seat.
