I'am a diehard hunter, fisherman, and gamefowl enthusiast. I just shot a 184 class typical 2 years ago that is my most prized possession. We have to band together with all those who enjoy hunting, fishing, rodeoing or basically anything to do with animals. They are coming after us hard. It's cockfighting today coonhunting tommorrow, you better beleive it, they will not stop till all animal use ceases, and they have the money to make it happen. Cockfighting is far from sporting, and it has absolutely nothing to do with hunting. Furthermore, it's the states' prerogative to regulate or outlaw cockfighting, unless the activity is protected by the state constitution, which I doubt it is anywhere. The HSUS doesn't elect the state legislature--your neighbors do.
I guess I'ma snob when I say that watching a couple chickens going at it in a ring just doesn't make much sense to me. Except for those people who truly have nothing better to do, who caresif it's banned? Support for a ban is high everywhereexcept some rural areas, and it's a decisive issue even there. It's just a matter of time before people get it outlawed, if it isn't already.

While the HSUS is indeed an org to be concerned about they're a private org with no power to enact legislation at any level, all they can do is propose it to their elected representatives just like you. Most of their proposals never make it to the floor of any state or federal legislature because they either contradict existing laws or directly conflict with them, or at the very least get referred to the individual state's game commission for review, where they're inevitably shot down for not being in the best interests of the game commission's ability to manage the game. Yes, they bear watching, but the sky isn't falling. On a side note: I couldn't care less about cockfighting or it's dog equivalent since I find both reprehensible and they have no brearing on hunting laws.

Guys I'am as country as they get, and a proud member of the NRA. If you don't think the HSUS is having a major impact on legislation, you need to start checking the headlines, it's a fact. Like I said i don't care if you agree with fighting chickens, it's about freedom of choice. The HSUS wants to eliminate all animal usage. They are just starting with cockfighters because they are the easiest target. Once they've won that war it's on to the next freedom. I don't think people realize how powerful and rich they have become.

Guys I've spent countless hours researching and investigating the HSUS, they are not what they seem beleive me. They do not own or run any animals shelters, they are merely a propaganda machine. Like I said earlier it's not just about the cockfighting you need to see the whole picture on what they are trying to accomplish. I'am not saying they are going to outlaw hunting or make many significant changes in hunting in your lifetime, but if you want your children and grandchildren to enjoy this god given right, you better be on alert now and not support these people in any way. Ifferd, I agree with you in part also, I used to trap to pay my way through college, but guess who ruined the fur market? They would rather the animals over populate and die from starvation or disease than let trappers do what's been done forthousands of years. Ask the people in Oklahoma why cockfighting was banned I assure it wasn't the hunting community. It was Wayne Pacelle president of the HSUS. I respect everyones opinion and don't blame you guys for not agreeing with cockfighting. If I wasn't raised around it my entire life and didn't understand gamefowl i would probably be right there with you. I know everything you've read and heard makes it sound very cruel and barbaric.

I have nothing to gain by telling this story I would just like people to know the truth. The HSUS prints blatent lies about the gamefowl industry.
1. Roosters are not made to fight, they have been bred that way for hundreds of years. They will fight to the death regardless.
2.Roosters are not filled with drugs and steroids to make them agressive. Gamecocks hate one another, they are already agressive.
3.Illegal gambling, name a sporting event where illegal gambling isn't involved.
4. Crime and drugs, never seen so much as a fist fight or any type of illegal substance. You will see more people fight in a NBA basketball game.
My last comment to get off my chest. Do you know what they do to these chickens when they are confisgated? They are place in 55 gallon drum and gassed to death, how is that humane? Roosters love to fight beleive it not, and I'am sure theywould choose fighting over being gassed with carbon monoxide by the HSUS. It's like R a rated tv show if don't like it turn the channel but don't tell me I can't watch it.
