RIYADH, Saudi Arabia"” A Saudi Arabian judge sentenced 20 foreigners to receive lashes and spend several months in prison after convicting them of attending a party where alcohol was served and men and women danced, a newspaper reported Sunday.
The defendants were among 433 foreigners, including some 240 women, arrested by the kingdom's religious police for attending the party in Jiddah, the state-guided newspaper Okaz said. It did not identify the foreigners, give their nationalities or say when the party took place.
Ouch, that's insane. A normal thing to do in this country is punishable by lashing and prison in another. That's a crazy part of the world.Â*
I've been to worse, try getting caught forgetting to flush a public toilet in Singapore, it's about an $800 fine. They beat you there too, and they aren't gentle about it.

People need to remember that Western culture is pretty much isolated to the West. These people in question knew the law (the Saudis make it very obvious that alcohol is illegal), and they knew this was a possibility. Not every country in the world is America Jr.

Good, that's what they get. There's no forgetting to flush. That would be like forgetting to pull up your pants. No excuse...

Yes, the Saudi big wigs import the stuff by the plane load and then sell it for $100-$150 per liter. Alcohol was "banned" by King Saud in about 1948 because hisson, Mohammed, got drunk and murdered the BritishConsul in Jeddah. Mohammed was famous as the grand father who had his grand daughter executed in "Death of a Princess." Mohammed was know as Abu Sharrain, (sp) father ot twin evils-booze and women. A son of King Fahd got drunk in 1990 and murdered a senior policeman in Riyadh. No punishment for him, of course.
I remember years ago when that little American punk got his butt whipped in Singapore for vandalizing cars. He deserved it. But, 800 bucks for not flushing, that's worse than lashing someone for boozing it up in Saudi Arabia.
As for getting away with murder while drunk, the Saudi royals don't hold a candle to Ted kennedy.

Most of the rich Saudis are hypocrits. They like to hang out in Bangkok playing with little boys and girls. AIDS is rampant in Saudi becauseSaudis whore around in African.Theygetinfected and then pass it on to their wives and unborn kids. For awhile they also hung out in Manila.
