An investigation of Mr. Obama by political opponents within the Democratic Party has discovered that Mr. Obama was raised as a Muslim by his stepfather in Indonesia. Sources close to the background check, which has not yet been released, said Mr. Obama, 45, spent at least four years in a so-called Madrassa, or Muslim seminary, in Indonesia.

Wouldn't get too hot and bothered about attending a madrassa. The word translates into the muslim version of Catholic parochial school. Dunno if two years in either type of school as a little kid would have someone converted into a Manchurian Candidate-like time bomb.

big secret. if we are to attack senator obama, let it be on his lack of experience in washington (although some might not see that as a bad thing), or his views on the issues. holding someone responsible for what kind of school their stepfather enrolled them in while living overseas is base fear-mongering.

Myself, I don't think I'd vote for anyone with ties to Islam. I realize that not all of the Islam world are our enemies, but I also realize that even the most politically correct points of view on the subject cannot deny that we're at war with Muslims. It is Islam that wants to see the downfall of America.
But the fact should not be lost on anyone that those responsible for "outing" Obama's Muslim ties are the same who insist that we shouldn't profile Muslims at airports or elsewhere where security is concerned. It reeks of hypocrisy.

This story broke a couple weeks ago. So far, it doesn't seem to be much of an issue. Obama and his family swore that the Muslim school had no fundamentalists ties and was strictly academic, with Muslim, Christian, and Buddhist students at all levels. An investigation of the school revealed absolutely nothing connected to Islamic terrorism, and seemed to support his statements. He attended for two years, not four, according to his family.
Maybe Middle America will blow up, but I think Obama has explained this all away very effectively, and will continue to do so.
