Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Hillary's view of business

Hillary Clinton made some public statements that exhibit one vital aspect of her liberalism.

Speaking of Exxon's profits -- the largest in the history of the world -- Hillary says she wants to put those profits to works achieving energy independence for the United States.

This sounds all pretty and nice, and the Democratic crowd applauded right on cue, but let's analyze what is implied by her utterance. Hillary views Exxon's profits as her's/the US government's to do with as they please. That is socialism, plain and simple. If you make a profit, particularly if you make a big profit, it is OK for the US government to confiscate your profits. Profit, it would seem, is evil and injust. What the hell is wrong with making profit, with making as much profit as you can? There is no "fair gas price," like everything else this is set in the free market by forces of supply and demand. If Exxon can manage to achieve higher dollar amounts of profit, more power to them.

Exxon's profits were large in absolute value, $39 B I believe, but this is only an increase of 9% over the prior year. That is a healthy gain, but it isn't unheard of.

I don't think the constitution invests either the senate or the house or the president or the supreme court justices with the power to confiscate the profits of a lawful corporation.

I don't work for an oil company, but a global consumer electronics company. I just think the friggin' liberals are too predicatable and have corrupt, false philosophical principles at their core which make them forever unacceptable to me.

I'm not voting for her anyway. [:'(]

Yes, it would be wrong for the gov't to try and take the profits. Even though it "chaps me new one" to see what we have to pay so they can have those large of profits. But no, don't think the gov't is entitled to any of it.

HIllary isn't a Democrat. She's a Socialist. She just listed herself as a Democrat because, as such, she knew she'd get elected in New York.

Exactly! She is a socialist and I can't even comment on it anymore. I can't believe there are enough stupid people to give her a shot at the Presidency.

The bad thing is there are probably more people that like her then don't.

Good post! Hillary has NO clue of the impact of zero profits on a company's willingness to continue business operations. I guess she expects the shareholders to invest for ZERO return. In reality, they'd close up shop and nobody would be in the business that doesn't have profit potential. What would happen to oil prices then??? What an absolute idiot! God help us all if she gets elected.

It's painfully clear she believes that a country's government spends money more wisely than its citizens do. Some people aren't great at earning a living and holding on to it, but Uncle Sam has historically been much, much more irresponsible. Such is the nature of large government. Something tells me she's not a great fan of Jefferson.

The oil industry received $39 billion in taxsubsidies in 2006. And for that we got $3.00 a gallon gas. That's obscene. Some of those tax breaksshould go somewhere else.

I agree they shouldn't get subsidies, beyond the little footer that the total includes defense costs to keep open the shipping lanes. Would you have the oil industry buy military escorts and man them, and/or put defense systems on oil tankers? I'd like to know how much of the "subsidies" are related to this, as the implication from all who complain about them is that the money goes in the pockets of big oil.
