I have to wonder who would mistake a crude, blinking LED display of a Mooninite giving the finger for a bomb or terrorist weapon. I don't really think a serious crime was committed here, although I'm sure various laws were broken in the process of setting these things up. The people involved shouldn't get off the hook necessarily, but they shouldn't be "made an example of" by a bunch of uptight bureacrats like Menino either.

Actually, those guys looked like your average Adult Swim audience members. That program has regularly won the rating war for its time slot among the 18-30 crowd.
