Let's see they want people to stop using a lightbulb that is 5% efficient,in leu of one that does this.

A 20-watt CFL gives as much light as a 75-watt conventional bulb, and lasts 13 times longer, according to the Rocky Mountain Institute, a nonprofit group studying energy issues.

I tried a couple of CFL's a couple years ago. They didn't give off nearly as much light as an incandescent. Have there been recent improvements? What is the relative cost over the life of the bulbs?

It said in the article there were improvements and who knows what another six years will bring.

Yes there have been improvements, but at a cost. The good CFL's are about $6-8 each. The cheapos at Wally World suck. They don't come on right away(need to warm up) and are pretty dim.I think its just going to be another stupid law for us Californians.

As does every thing that improves. Look at hybrid cars and altenate energy sources they have improved at a cost but what is the overall good. The current lightbulb has not been improved in over 100 years it's time something is done don't you think?

Yeah, but people have a choice whether or not tobuy a hybrid, right?? If I want to buy expensive lights bulbs I will, if not, then I should have the choice to buy the cheap bright bulbs, right??

Something has been done. A new type of bulb has been developed. Seems to me that if the new bulbs are more efficient and cost effective, that the market will take care of things. Why does the government have to get involved?

If the bulbs are $6-$8 a piece, I don't see why the government should have a right to tell me I have to buy something that costs 30 times as much, but only lasts 13 times as long. I doubt that the savings in the operatingcosts over that period make up for the difference in the price.

Not in favor of the goverment getting involved, it's not yet, the bill hasn't been voted on. This is sorta like the proposed trans fat ban in nYC, it's the right thing but the wrong approach.

I wonder how far these bulbs will come in the near future.
