Obama, in his memoir "The Audacity of Hope" says that the arguments of liberals are more often grounded in reason and fact. I guess that is grounds to classify him as a liberal. Additionally, Obama has a 95% liberal rating from Americans for Democratic Reform, a liberal advocacy group that ranks all members of Congress.
Heh! Heh! Heh! It seems that liberals are typically quite vehement in trying to shed the "liberal" label, as if they know that is something many people do not want to vote for. I wager that this vestment of "liberalism" will weigh heavily on Obama if he becomes the Democratic candidate for president.
It seems to me that Democratic candidates when running in the primaries compete to out-liberal each other, playing to the ultra-liberal component of the Democratic party that is most faithful in turning out in primary elections. This leads to these candidates making lots of public statements that paints them into a liberal corner. Then, upon nomination by their party as THE candidate, they quickly try to slide back over to the middle, but the middle is then occupied by the Republican candidate who has a war chest of public utterances by the liberal striped Democratic candidate.
Isn't voluntarily pigeonholing yourself as a "liberal" a bad political move? In my mind, a political liberal is an evil devoutly to be avoided. Liberal, in my mind, means (1) wealth redistribution, (2) increased, punitive taxes, (3) increased give aways to the indolent and parasitic members of our society, (4) deliberate weakening of the national defense, (5) government meddling and coercion of traditional social norms, (6) gun banning. What are your thoughts?
Seems ole "W" did the same. He played the "conservative Christian" card and bluffed America twice. Once elected, he went back to the way "left" side of the party.
Seriously, does anyone still believe he is as "conservative" as he said he was? I highly doubt it. It's this little thing called "politics". It's something that makes people play off the good of the people for their own personal gain. Whether it be money, power, etc. BOTH sides do it. Neither is ANY better than the other where "the rubber meets the road".
