Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default They knew when sworn in

The wordings of the current oath of enlistment and oath for commissioned officers are as follows:

"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).

"I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God."

I dont see where it says,I will fight where or when I want to. I dont see anything about free education. I dont see anything misleading about what these men and women signedandswore to do........"SO HELP ME GOD"

Absolutly I am an American Soldier.
My point being that there is so much complaining about what our soldiers are doing or where they are at that I felt some peolple needed to see what these men and women wanted to do and swore under Oath to do. No tricksor hidden agenda.I have heard with my own ears from someGI's and their parents that they just came in for the education and not to kill or fight someone else. The oath does not state anything about free educationor where they fight or even where they will be stationed. ( 3 hots and a cot )The Oath that they tookcomes first no matter whatand whatever happens after that as far as benefits is extra. Their first and foremost obligation is to defend your/our/their freedom where ever the enemy may be.

First bow, Ive read quite a few of your posts recently and you seem to have trouble differentiating between the troops, and the people that are calling the shots back here in the states. With very few exceptions Ive seen nobody criticize the way the troops have handled themselves, or any of thier actions in Iaq.Nobody has anything against our armed forces and I think theyve done quite well with what theyve been given to work with.In reality the amount of time weve been there and the daily violence thats occuring along with having thier hands tied by US and Iraqi politics theyve done marvelously, the number of dead could have been much higher that we see today.

Bush and company however are a different story, the majority of complaints are about them, and thier actions regarding this war.And these complaints are totaly valid, from the begining this war has been badly handled sarting with the reasons we went to war and right up till today where Bushs refusalto change strategy and lack of planninghas resulted in what we see going on over there today. Our troops are only as effective as the people in charge of them and to this point thier leadership from Washingtons been questionable to say the least.

Peta's right as usual, First Bow.

You amaze me with your ability to ignore the facts and circumstances of the posts in which you choose to participate. You've got this idea that any fight anywhere is justified anytime basically because we've got a military with which to fight.

Each time you've been presented with the facts, you either fall silent and stop posting, go back to the same flawed responses, or worse yet, presume that your military service is somehow special and grants you some importance or validity...a presumption which insults those of us who've also served, and those of us who have not.
