Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Question re: Iraq

I've noticed in nearly every Military channel, Discover channel, news report, etc. on Iraq, they nearly always show the seizure of weapons made during patrols. Sometimes just rifles, sometimes RPG's and other potentially more destructive weapons. Anybody have any info on what our seizure policy in Iraq encompasses? Do we seize all weapons, only certain types of weapons, or only weapons we believe are linked to terrorists in some form or fashion?

Default RE: Question re: Iraq

The insurgents in Iraq have weapon caches. They don't store their own weapons in their houses for the most part. What they do is, they just have these weapons caches hidden in their area of operations. This way the can pick up a rifle somewhere, take some shots at soldiers or Marines, and then dump the weapon at another cache, and then just walk around town like a regular Iraqi.

Default RE: Question re: Iraq

I think the Iraqi national policy allows for one weapon (rifle, pistol) per house. Not sure if the provinces or local governments have any say over that. Crew served or anti-materiel weapons are not permitted for private ownership. The guns seized by our troops and the Iraqi National Guard are eventually destroyed.

Default RE: Question re: Iraq

A lot of the weapons are leftovers form the Iraq Iran war, what the U.S. does with them weapons caches is blow them up. Some of the EOD have found that the caches have been boobtrapped and its safer and easier just to blow the whole pile.
