Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Another thought in my feeble mind. (Somalia)

I have read in many different articles that the pulling out of Somalia did two things;
1. Emboldened Bin Lauden to step up his campaign against America, because ofthe message sent about our fortitude, or lack of, if you will. Could the event in Mogadishu have sent that strong of a message?

2. Discredited the U.N..

What are your thoughts??

I believe that act of Clinton set the stage for us to lose more soldiers in teh long run. It set the presidence that, if terrorist push certain buttons, like showing bodies on TV, American mothers will fold very quickly. My old college roommate was there. He said everybody was mad as heck over being told to cut and run. Those soldiers were PO'd and wanted blood.

I can remember being in college and the G.I.s coming unglued about it as well. They were all ready to kick some butt.

Don't forget the bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut and the cut and run from there. We have had a long history of taking it on the knees like that. Kind of a hangover from Vietnamfor the typical Americans combined witha lack of intestinal fortitude by politicians.

Clinton botched the Somalia thing big time. By packing up and leaving Somalia, Clinton showed the terrorists thatthe US did not care about the place.When Reagan packed up the Marine Corps and abandoned Beirut to the Islamic crazies he showed the wholeIslamic worldthat the US did not have the stomach for a fight.The abandonment of Beirut by the US set the stage for total long term civil war in Lebanon.

At the end of the first Gulf War the US had nearly 500,000troops in the Middle East area. Iraq should have been cleaned out at that time. USpoliticians wereafraid that the mythical "Arab coalition" would fall apart if Iraq was occupied. The Syriancontingent of the so-called "coalition" did not fight at all. The Saudis and Kuwaitis were useless. TheEgyptian contingent of the "coalition" amounted to nothing more than cheerleaders.

This is a fine example of what happens when the job is not done right the first time. Let's get it done rightASAP.

"Didnt the U.N. call for the withdrawl not Clinton?"

You are probably correct. The thing that i remember most vividly is the fight in Mogadishu where special operations folks were in abind.They couldnot get heavily armored vehicles to rescue the troops. Seems like the despicable Sec'y of Defense, Les Aspin, had personally disapprovedthe tanks that his generals had asked for. This is what happens when a liberal military hating idiot is elected president.
