Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default The State of The Union address...

He's got some ground to cover...

He's probably going to go down in history in the same bag with Jimmy Carter.

Ouch. That's pretty bad...

Even Jimmy's pals are deserting him over his recent levels of goofiness.

I guess you missed his recent speech where he took the blame for mistakes that have been made.

Quote:
The situation in Iraq is unacceptable to the American people - and it is unacceptable to me. Our troops in Iraq have fought bravely. They have done everything we have asked them to do. Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me.

I disagree. I think Bush will go down in history as one of America's most successful presidents. Now and 20 years from now are two different things, and history will remember Bush not as how he's viewed now but how he's viewed 20 years from now. Same with Carter; we judge him now based on what happened during his administration and how it went down in history, not what his public approval rating was at the time. Take Ford for example. If history judged Ford on how he was viewed at the time of the Nixon pardon, he wouldn't have gone down very favorably. Instead, as America looked back on him in the '90s, he was vindicated.

The petty things "” they aren't petty, really, but when stacked up with the other issues of present they are "” like illegal immigration and the Mexican border, things where I really disagree with Bush, will be lost in the history books. Bush will be judged on three main things: Iraq, the response to 9/11 and the general state of the economy. It remains to be seen how Iraq will be seen 20 years from now; I suspect it will not be viewed favorably, but one never knows, does one? The response to 9/11 was fantastic, and the economy has been very good. Political partisanship of the present would put the recession of Bush's first term alongside the strong economy of his second term and use one to offset the other, but history has a way of seeing through partisanship; history will record an economy that was headed into recession when Bush took office, a recession that was hurried along by 9/11, and then the later successes of the economy.

For the record, I don't think Bush deserves much credit for the current state of the economy, but Democrats were quick to blame him for the recession, and Clinton gets the glory for the strong economy of the mid-to-late '90s, so Bush is equally deserving of the credit for what's currently happening.

Another thing about Bush: I'd be willing to bet that you won't see him criticizing future presidents as Carter and Clinton have done. I think he's respectful enough not to do that. He carries himself with dignity. If I'm wrong, and I'm still hanging around this messageboard at that time, then someone can pull up this post and laugh at my prediction.

At one point, in Iowa I think, they had to pass an ordinance to keep them from building taverns within immediate walking distance of the state capital because too many legislators were staying hammered while in session.

Unemployment is at what? A 15 or 20 year low?

Income taxes down. Tax revenue up. Economy in great shape. Stock market setting several records. Oil prices going down. No terrorist attacks on U.S. soil since 9/11. Saddam captured, tried, and hanged. Bin Laden has been all but silenced. Publicly taking the blame for mistakes made. Not making decisions based on opinion or popularity polls.

Yep--sounds just like the Carter administration--if you've beendropping acid.

Makes lots of sense to broadcast specifics to the general public---guess there should be a website where every concerned citizen could log in and see every strategy and move our military plans to implement.

He ain't perfect, but give the man some credit where credit is due. Hewas delta no-win situation. Everybody was ready to go to war after 9/11, but few have the guts to see it through. If we hadn't gone to war, we'd have been hit again and again, and there would be the same criticism. If we pull out, the enemy will re-group and we'll get hit again.

The biggest mistakes made, in my opinion of course, are allowing media coverage and giving the enemy Geneva Convention protection. Get rid of civilian cameras in the war zone, let out soldiers go in and do their job. Get rid of the cameras at Gitmo as well, and treat the prisoners there like POWs.

In short, take the politics out of thewar. They are as compatable as oil and water.
