WASHINGTON -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is heading to Iraq and Afghanistan this weekend -- and calling for a troop "surge" in Afghanistan even though she opposes a similar measure in Iraq.
Clinton, who voted to authorize the Oct. 2002 Iraq invasion, cautioned against paying too much attention to Iraq at the expense of the resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan.
"I wish we were discussing additional troops for Afghanistan. We are hearing increasingly troubling reports out of Afghanistan and we will be searching for accurate information about the true state of affairs both militarily and politically," she told the Associated Press.
RE: Hillary pushing for troop surge in Afghanistan
A troop surge in Pakistan is what's needed. We can put troops on the border, but it's an awfully big border to watch for a few companies crossing here and there only to run back later.
Anyway, I hear a lot of people screaming about Bush pulling troops from Afghanistan and sending them to Iraq. These people conveniently forget to mentionthat NATO has taken over ops in Kabul, and there is a substantial coalition over there. I guess there's something inherently wrong in rotating folks back home and eventually redeploying them to a different theater in the same conflict, too.

Yeah, if we're down to the last soldier, that's one thing, but at this point there's no need for a draft. Let's take the volunteers. If anything, something somewhere motivated them to get off the couch and put on a uniform. They're doing as good a job as ever, ground, air, or sea.
