Ellison sworn in with Quran guess who owned it???

WASHINGTON - Keith Ellison made history Thursday, becoming the first Muslim member of Congress and punctuating the occasion by taking a ceremonial oath with a Quran once owned by Thomas Jefferson.
"Look at that. That's something else," Ellison, D-Minn., said as officials from the Library of Congress showed him the two-volume Quran, which was published in London in 1764.
A few minutes later, Ellison took the ceremonial oath with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., at his side. So many of Ellison's family members attended the ceremony that it was done in two takes.

That's interesting that Jefferson owned it, but really, who cares? The guy was elected by his constituents. Enough said.

I have owned and read a copy of the quran. Doesn't mean anything, just thougth it was a good idea to know what I was up against.

This specific thing doesn't bother me. If that's the book of his faith, ok with me, we have religious liberty.

What does bother me is the situation where the 6 imams who made the great show impersonating terrorists on the flight are now attempting to use the legal system - particularly the threat of lawsuits - against us.

It's a show. How americanis TJ? TJ is like apple pie. Yet it is rumored he was an atheist. Don't these people have their own korans to be sworn in oninstead have to borrows someones from the past? It's all a show. He should not of had permission to use TJ koran. He should of asked to use saddams instead. But that would of only got him the muslims on his sides and not the christians and patriots. Let's not be fooled people. It's a political show.

'Now it's time to get down to business'
Ellison, the first black member of Congress from Minnesota, was born in Detroit and converted to Islam in college. He said earlier this week that he chose to use this Quran because it showed that a visionary like Jefferson believed that wisdom could be gleaned from many sources.
In a brief interview Thursday on his way to a vote, Ellison suggested he had tired of the whole issue of his using the Quran.
"It was good, we did it, it's over, and now it's time to get down to business," he said.
Asked if he was relieved to have it behind him, Ellison said, "Yeah, because maybe we don't have to talk about it so much anymore. Not that I'm complaining, but the pressing issues the country is facing are just a little bit more on my mind right now."
Ellison's mother, Clida Ellison, said in an interview that she thought any controversy over her son's choice was good, "because many people in America are going to learn what the diversity of America is all about."
She described herself as a practicing Catholic.
"I go to Mass every day," she said.

Sounds like it was politics accusing Jefferson of being an athiest.

"The rights of conscience we never submitted, we could not submit. We are answerable for them to our God. The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg . . . . Reason and free inquiry are the only effectual agents against error." Jefferson's religious views became a major public issue during the bitter party conflict between Federalists and Republicans in the late 1790s when Jefferson was often accused of being an atheist.

He should not of had permission to use TJ koran. He should of asked to use saddams instead.
